Select an AI model for generative control

Learn how to choose between different AI models to finetune generative results in Adobe Photoshop.

Select File > Open to select and open an image.

Per your desired workflow, select Generative Fill   or Generative Expand    from the Contextual Task Bar.

From the Contextual Task Bar, select an AI model.

Select your preferred AI model for improved generative results.

Enter a prompt and then select Generate .

Review the result and refine the selection or prompt as required.

Note
  • Generative Fill and Generative Expand using Adobe Firefly models are standard features and will consume 1 credit.
  • Generative Fill and Generative Expand, powered by Firefly Fill & Expand (beta) model in Photoshop (beta) on desktop, deduct 1 credit per generation.  
  • Generative Fill and Generative Expand, powered by Firefly Image 3 and Firefly Image 1 models, deduct 1 credit per generation.
  • Generative Fill, powered by Gemini 2.5 (Nano Banana) and FLUX.1 Kontext [pro] (partner AI models), is a premium feature and deducts 10 credits per generation.
