Enabling automatic smart tagging on a new folder

You can configure AEM Assets to automatically add smart tags to any image asset that you upload to a new folder.

Opomba:

To use the Smart Tagging cloud service in AEM Assets, see Configuring Smart Tagging Cloud Service.

  1. In the Assets console, create a folder to upload image assets.

  2. Select the folder, and click/tap the Folder Settings icon from the toolbar.

  3. In the Folder Settings dialog, select Smart Tag Assets and click Save.

    chlImage_1
  4. Upload image assets to the folder. Tags are automatically applied to the images you upload.

  5. Navigate to the Properties page of an image in the folder. The automatically-applied tags appear under Smart Tags.

    Confidence level

The number that is shown next to the smart tags is the confidence level. In this case, the tagging algorithm is 85% confident that the tag "business" is relevant to the image of Scott Reynolds. This number is extremely important for search. AEM ranks the search results based on the confidence scores, which generally improves search results beyond what an inspection of the assigned tags of any image suggests. Any inaccurate tags often have low confidence scores so they seldom appear at the top of search results. Therefore, you generally need not curate the smart tags.

    Opomba:

AEM applies a minimum confidence threshold for the smart tags to avoid having too many tags for each image, which slows down indexing. The default threshold is 50%. It may not be the optimal threshold for all users. Therefore, Adobe encourages you to experiment with this value. If some images are not tagged, it may indicate that the algorithm is less than 50% confident in the predicted tags.

In the CRX repository, smart tags are stored at a separate location from the tags that are assigned manually and do not interfere with the manual tags in any way. Therefore, there is no risk of interference or "contamination" of the manual tags. Also, manual tags are assigned a confidence of 100% (maximum confidence). Therefore, if there are images with manual tags that match the search query, they are displayed before smart tags matching the search query.

Opomba:

To apply automatic smart tagging on folders that already contain image assets, use Folder Settings. In this case, only the images that you upload after enabling this option are automatically tagged. To apply tags on pre-existing images in a folder, separately configure a background job that periodically tags these images in batches. By default, the background job runs every 24 hours at 12:00 AM and tags image assets in batches of 1000. If necessary, you can modify the frequency, time, and batch size for the job.

Enabling smart tagging in bulk

You can automatically add smart tags to image assets within a folder by applying the DAM Smart Tag Assets workflow on the folder.

  1. From the Navigation page, click/tap the Tools icon.

    chlImage_1
  2. From the rail, select Workflow.

    chlImage_1
  3. Click/tap the Models tile on the page.

  4. From the Workflow Models page, select the DAM Smart Tag Assets model.

    chlImage_1
  5. Click/tap the Start Workflow icon from the toolbar.

    chlImage_1
  6. In the Run Workflow dialog, click/tap the Browse icon beside Payload field to browse to the folder to which you want apply the automatic smart tagging workflow.

    chlImage_1
  7. Select the desired folder, and click Confirm on the top right.

    chlImage_1
  8. In the Run Workflow dialog, click/tap Run. The automatic smart tagging workflow is applied to all images within the folder.

    chlImage_1
  9. Navigate to the Properties page of any image asset in the folder. The smart tags appear under Predicted Tags. The number that appears beside the name of each tag is the confidence that AEM Assets assigns regarding how suitable the tag is to be used for the particular image. For example, the 84 beside the name of a tag indicates that AEM Assets assigns an 84% confidence level regarding the appropriateness of the tag for the image asset.

Searching for images with smart tags

After you enable automatic smart tagging on a new folder or run the automatic smart tagging workflow on images in bulk, you can verify the augmented search capability by searching for image assets based on relevant tags that you haven't explicitly added to images.

  1. From the Assets console, open the Search panel.

    chlImage_1
  2. Specify a tag that you haven't explicitly added to an image, and search based on the tag.

  3. The Search page displays the image based on the specified tag.
