First character is skipped while typing on Windows

Issue

When you highlight some text in a text frame and start typing, the first keypress does not respond and the first character is skipped. This issue occurs only on Windows system.

Solution 1: Download and install the plug-in

Before you perform the steps below, make sure that you have InDesign 13.1 installed on your system. You can check the version of InDesign installed on your system by going to Help > About InDesign.

You can update InDesign on your system from the Creative Cloud desktop app. For more information, see Update Creative Cloud apps.

  1. Quit Adobe InDesign.

  2. Download CopyPlugin.zip and extract its content to desktop.

  3. Find and double-click CopyPlugin.vbs from the extracted folder.

  4. Browse and select Adobe InDesign CC 2018 application folder.

  5. Click OK.

    If you get the following error, make sure that you unzip the downloaded file before running the plug-in.

  6. The plug-in is installed and you get the message once InDesign is successfully updated. Click OK.

  7. Restart your system. 

  8. Launch InDesign.

Solution 2: Change the preferences

  1. In InDesign, go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced Type.

  2. Clear Show Adornment On Text Selection/Text Frame For More Type Controls option under Type Contextual Controls.
