Tar PM Scan tool

The Tar PM Scan tool allows you to view the transactions within the Tar Persistence Manager's tar files at a low level. Viewing such transactions helps in analyzing unusual repository growth issues where the disk usage is growing rapidly.

Download and installation

Using the tool

You can access the Tar PM Scan tool directly from a web browser at http://<host>:<port>/system/console/tarscan

To scan a tar file, do the following:

  1. Select a tar file in the Select Tar File pop-up menu.
  2. Click Scan.
  3. Click OK in the warning dialog box. The system scans the tar file and outputs the contents to the screen.
Poznámka:

It is often most useful to analyze the contents of the tar file with the highest id number.

Interpreting results

If the scan is working properly, after you click Scan a message similar to this one appears:

"."

Once the scan is partially completed, you see a table like the one below. It shows the path that changed, the size of the node, and the node's properties and children.

Open issues

  • The tool currently uses a large amount of memory and CPU to generate the listing of the tar file. Use it with caution, especially in production environments.
  • If the tar file is large, the scan output can crash your browser, because all paths in the tar file are listed in the web console user interface.

CQ version capability

  • CQ 5.5
  • AEM 5.6
