  • Business days from start of the tutorial plan to end of “approved by QE”: 15–30

Task

Description

Est. timing (per tutorial set, unless noted)

Author onboarded

  • Community Manager requests author account creation for Interactive Tutorial Builder.
  • Community Manager asks author for a link to the author’s Behance account that is associated with the author’s Creative Cloud e-mail. If the author does not already have one, the author creates a Behance account with a photo and short bio (<360 characters recommended).
  • Community Manager provides guidelines and walkthrough of Tutorial Builder.
  • Author downloads Interactive Tutorial Builder build referencing Adobe production build instructions, provided by Community Manager.
  • Community Manager will communicate which build or version of Ps or Ai to use.
  • Community Manager will let Author know if there are any updates to Tutorial Builder for author to download and install during the authoring process.
  • Community Manager and Author agree on categories for which Author will create tutorials.
  • 1-4 days (total — not per tutorial set)

Subjects finalized

  • Author creates a proposed list of tutorials in the categories, each with subject and brief description
  • Community Manager reviews and approves tutorials and subjects, or works with author to revise as needed, and then approves.
  • 1-6 days to finalize subjects, depending on number of tutorials assigned to Author. (All tutorial subjects assigned to Author will be finalized together, so this timing is not per tutorial set.)

Start date - tutorial enters the pipeline

Tutorial set planned

  • Author plans what they will cover in a tutorial before creating assets. There is no deliverable for this step, but please do not skip it.
  • 2 days

Assets created & reviewed

  • Author fills in the “Design Brief from Author” section of the Author Brief entitled (subsections “Instruction plan” and “Asset description”.)
  • Author adds 2 concepts for tutorial assets; these can be sketches or low-fidelity mocks-ups. Please do not pull multiple images from a single photo shoot; we’re aiming for tutorials to be distinct in style and subject matter.
  • Design reviews concepts, chooses 1 for the author to refine, and adds comments to the Author Brief.
  • Author creates FPO assets, consulting [Ps] Image specs or [Ai] Image specs, and replaces the FPO images in Author Brief with screenshots of all assets (starter file, end file, hero & thumbnail). When Author finishes this step, Author adds comment in Paper Doc and @-mentions Designer. (See Author Brief for Designer’s name.)
  • Design reviews assets and adds comments to Author Brief.
  • Author modifies and finalizes creation of assets per comments.
  • Once asset is finalized, Adobe Stock is licensed & tracked
  • For Community authors: Author is responsible for purchasing an extended/enhanced license from Adobe Stock (no other stock services).
  • For Adobe-authored content: Author adds links in the Author Brief to any Adobe Stock to be licensed and @-mention Ilana Somasunderam isomasun@adobe.com. Note: If you need an unwatermarked version of the stock image earlier in the process to verify if the stock asset will work for your planned tutorial, please @-mention Ilana Somasunderam isomasun@adobe.com (not applicable for community created content).

Tutorial draft written in Author Brief - for tutorials with section images

  • Author writes draft in Author Brief, at first without section images.
  • Curator provides feedback via the commenting feature in Dropbox Paper and provides direction for section images.
  • Curator lets Author know when to write the tutorial in TB and move on to the next steps.
  • 1-2 days to write first draft
  • 3 days of review and turnaround

Tutorial created in Tutorial Builder

  • Author thinks through the steps/coachmarks to include in the tutorial and how they are organized into sections. You may want to jot down some notes or a brief outline to help you stay on track as you create.
  • Walk through the screens of the Interactive Tutorial Builder panel in the app (Ps or Ai), following the on-screen instructions for uploading the assets and creating the tutorial. You can preview your work as you create.
  • If Author or Curator needs to significantly alter the starter file for instructional or technical reasons, please let your Community Manager know, as an additional Design review/approval may be necessary.
  • Don’t forget to click Save at the top of the Tutorial Builder and in any Step Details you’re working in to preserve your work while you’re resolving your question.
  • Don’t click Submit until you’re finished creating the tutorial. Once you Submit you can’t make changes until the tutorial is reviewed. If you accidentally click Submit, ask a Curator to reject it back to you.”
If you need help as you’re creating a tutorial, read the instructions on the screens of the Tutorial Builder and consult how to create a tutorial for Photoshop or Illustrator.

For authors: practical ways to stay on top of your tutorials

  • Use the TB Content Pipeline view for authors in Airtable (Ps, Ai) to see which tutorials you’re submitting asset concepts for this week. (Look at the content_prod_start column.) Submit asset concepts by the Thursday of the stated week at the latest.
  • Once an asset concept is approved by Design, create the final assets (starter file, end file, hero image, thumbnail image) and put them in your Author Brief.
    • For Adobe-authored tutorials (not Community): after a concept is approved, you may ask for Stock assets before creating final assets
  • Once an asset is approved by Design, start writing your tutorial.
  • (If applicable) Write the draft of your tutorial in Paper in 1-2 business days. Turn around a tutorial in response to your curator’s comments within 24 hours.
  • Build your tutorial in Tutorial Builder in 3-5 business days.
  • After the tutorial is built, check your notifications from Tutorial Builder, or your Dashboard in Tutorial Builder, every day, to see if a tutorial has been sent back to you. Turn around a tutorial in response to your curator’s comments within 24 hours.
