Fix Acrobat crashing at launch on Windows

Try these solutions to fix the crashing issue when opening a PDF.

Your graphics driver can cause Acrobat to crash on launch. You may face this issue if you're using Acrobat version 24.002.20933 or later. 

Turn off Optimize page interactions preference

  1. In Acrobat, choose Edit > Preferences

  2. In the Preferences dialog box, select Page Display under Categories.

  3. Deselect Optimize Page Interactions and click OK.

    Don't see this option?

    If you don't see Optimize Page Interactions, update Acrobat to the latest version and try again. If your issue is still not resolved, try the next solution. 

  4. Restart Acrobat. 

Modify windows registry setting

  1. Press Windows + R key to open the Run command.

  2. Enter Regedit and press Enter.

  3. In Windows Registry Editor, navigate to the following path:

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC\FeatureLockDown

  4. Right-click and select New > DWORD Value and rename the file to bDirectManipulationIPMConsumer.

  5. Right-click the file and select Modify. Set the data value to 1.

  6. Restart Acrobat.
