Learn how to use the picture in a picture tool to overlay your videos.

Now try it yourself

1. Download the practice file and open Adobe Premiere Rush, then click on the Create a New Project button.

2. Navigate to the practice file you just downloaded then type in "Travel Vlog" at the bottom left as project name.

3. Click on the video thumbnails to select three out of four videos to import them. Click the Create button. 

4. The videos were now imported into the timeline one after another. Advance the playhead over the first video to the position where you would like to start the second video. 

5. Click and drag the second video clip on top of the first video. The video clip will snap to the playhead position when you come close to it.

6. With the second video clip selected click on the Crop & Rotate icon on the right. The Transform panel will open.

7. In the Transform panel expand the Advanced section by double-clicking on it.

8. Click and drag the Left slider on the Crop menu to crop the video from the left. Do the same for the Right slider to crop the video from the right. You can also enter a specific value by clicking on it.

9. To change the horizontal position of the cropped video use the Horizontal Position slider within the Basic section.

10. Advance the playhead over the first video to the position where you would like to start the third video.

11. Click and drag the third video clip on top of the second video. The video clip will snap to the playhead position when you come close to it.

12. Like you did for the second video clip, crop the Left and Right side of the third video to 33%.

13. Change the horizontal position of the cropped video by using the Horizontal Position slider within the Basic section or type in "1594" directly.

14. To close the Transform panel click on the Crop & Rotate icon again.

15. To import the fourth video from the practice files click the Add Media button on the top left side, then choose Media from the context menu.

16. Click on a video thumbnail to select a clip, then click the Add button.

17. The fourth video was now imported into the lowest track of your timeline. Close the Add Media panel by clicking on the close button.

18. Advance the playhead over the first video to the position where you would like to start the third video. Click and drag the fourth video clip on top of the third video.

19. With the fourth video clip selected click on the Crop & Rotate icon on the right. Within the Scale section use slider to change the Width to 50%.

Tip: When Maintain Proportions is checked Width and Height values are changed together.

 

20. Crop the left side of the fourth video clip by moving the Left slider to 32% in the Crop section.

21. Change the position of the fourth video by typing in a value of 1441 at the Horizontal Position and a value of 810 at the Vertical Position.

22. To preview your edits click the Play button or press the spacebar on your keyboard. You can also click and drag the playhead to preview a specific section in the video.
