Current Motion Graphics templates (MOGRTs) do not support universal text engine features. To incorporate the new universal text engine in Motion Graphics templates, use the latest releases of After Effects (22.1.1) and Premiere Pro (22.1.1). Automatic universal text engine support for older Motion Graphics templates will be added in a future release.
December 2021 (version 22.1.1) release of Premiere Pro helps you take control of titles and graphics with Search and Replace and spell-checking, a new Universal Text engine, improved shape tools, and new efficiencies for professional editing workflows. Keep your creativity moving with new hardware acceleration for ProRes and HEVC on Apple M1 systems along with other performance enhancements.
Manage titles and graphics efficiently via the new Graphics tab in the Text panel. Use Search and Replace to update text within graphics – or just search to find any graphic in a sequence. Spell checking is a highly requested feature and users can now easily find and correct typos in any title or graphic containing text, whether the graphic was created in Premiere Pro or After Effects.
The Graphics and Captions workspaces are now consolidated in the Text panel. When editing text attributes in the Essential Graphics panel or reviewing the text and titles in a sequence, open the Text panel to access and navigate easily through your graphics.
For more information, see Check spelling and perform find and replace operations in Adobe Premiere Pro.
Working with multiple languages in Premiere Pro and After Effects is easier and faster now.
Instead of going to Preferences every time you need to use a different script, simply start typing in the chosen language. For graphics that include Middle Eastern and South Asian languages, Left-to-right or right-to-left settings can be applied directly in the Essential Graphics panel. Different scripts can be combined in the same graphics elements and all text layers are interchangeable, making titles and graphics easier and faster for multi-lingual editing.
You can make polygons with three sides up to as many as 50. The ability to set height, width and corner radius values make it easier to make precision edits and animate shapes
In addition, the shape tools are stacked with the most recently used tool showing at the top of the stack. Click and hold on the visible tool to display all three shape tools.
This change brings the shape tools in line with other Adobe applications and allows for the inclusion of additional parameters when upgrading Legacy Titles to modern Source Graphics in Premiere Pro.
For more information, see Create shape layers.
Pen tool improvements
Draw lines with greater precision with improvements to the Pen tool in Premiere Pro. Draw straight lines including perfect 0°, 45°, 90° angles, rotate existing lines, and add control points with Bezier handles for curves, whether at custom angles or constrained to 0°, 45°, and 90°.
For more information, see Create angles with the Pen tool.
Upgrade Legacy Titles on opening projects
If you open projects containing Legacy Titles, a dialog opens prompting you to update your legacy titles to modern graphics. Follow the prompts to update.
For more information, see Upgrade Legacy Titles to Source Graphics.
You can now add a new Gang button to the transport controls for side-by-side playback in the Program and Source monitors. Ganged playback makes it easier to compare sequences.
The new button makes it easier to access ganged playback and provides a visual indicator when ganged playback is enabled.

You can now define which camera view to use as your multi-cam thumbnail (poster frame) in the Project panel.
Instead of the top track in the timeline, the new default thumbnail is the A camera and you can use keyboard shortcuts to cycle through camera views, preview them, and choose new thumbnails if needed.
You can also duplicate, and batch edit thumbnails, which helps with managing media in larger projects.
This feature is especially helpful for assistant editors who are organizing and preparing content for editorial.
For more information, see Manage multi-cam thumbnails in the Project panel.
Typically, the poster frame is the first frame in a clip and is used as the thumbnail for that file. You can now use your keyboard to batch edit the poster frames for your clips, 10 frames forward or 10 frames back. Adjust poster frames, for example, to show a slate or skip ahead to show the action in a scene.
For more information, see Adjust poster frames.
Faster importing and updating of captions
Caption files now load faster and can be updated more easily. After importing a captions file, Premiere Pro scans the file in the background. Once the captions are available, you can use the new Restore Captions from Source command to populate the timeline.
Files with embedded caption are updated from the source file at any time, using the same Restore Captions from Source command.
Thanks to new hardware acceleration, 4k, and 8K ProRes are now up to 5x faster on M1 Pro and M1 Max MacBook Pros.
Playback is smooth and exports are completed in a fraction of the time.
Premiere Pro exports for high-resolution HEVC are faster with macOS 12 on M1 Macs. Hardware encoding is now enabled for DCI 4K and 8K HEVC exports, resulting in significantly faster performance.
Previously hardware encoding was available for resolutions up to UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) on M1 systems. DCI 4K footage is 4096 x 2160 pixels, and 8K footage is 7680 x 4320 pixels. These export improvements are available for macOS 12 on all Apple M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max systems.
Improved playback for Windows systems with integrated Intel GPUs
Display technology optimizations provide improved playback on Windows systems with Intel Integrated GPUs. The improvements apply across all formats with anywhere from 5% to 40% fewer dropped frames.
Faster Color Match, powered by Adobe Sensei
Color Match is up to 30% faster, thanks to machine learning optimizations. Editors, colorists, and content creators use Color Match to apply the colorimetry of a reference image to a new shot, speeding up color correction and shot matching in Premiere Pro.
