Premiere Pro support for older Intel graphic cards

If you are running Premiere Pro on older Windows machines and have stability issues, make sure you update your drivers to the latest version.

Note:

If you are logged in as a Guest or Standard User, Windows will not permit you to install the driver.

Some organizations do not allow users to regulate what they install and how they can manipulate the system and application settings. In such a scenario, contact your system admin for assistance installing the driver.

Driver installation procedure

Before you start: Back up your boot volume. See How to create a system image in Windows 10.

  1. Quit all Adobe applications currently running on your desktop.

  2. Download and use the Intel Driver & Support Assistant to get the latest drivers for your GPU.

  3. If the Intel Driver & Support Assistant is not able to identify the driver you need, install an older driver from the following list.

    If you are using

    Update to

Baytrail/3rd generation Intel cards (Win 7/8.1/10)

4th generation Intel cards (Win 7/8.1)

4th generation Intel cards (Win 10) and Braswell/Cherry Trail/5th generation Intel cards (Win 7/8.1/10)

6th generation Intel cards (Win 7/8.1/10)

  4. Follow the installation screen instructions.

  5. Once the drivers are installed, select OK, and finally, choose Next to restart your computer. Reboot your machine even if the setup doesn’t prompt you.

Verify driver installation

  1. Open Device Manager. For Windows 10: Right-click the Windows Start icon or open the Start menu and search for Device Manager. Go to the Display Adapters section.

  2. Double-click the installed display adapter in Device Manager

  3. Click the Driver tab and verify that the vendor is Intel.

Troubleshoot driver installation

You may get one of the below error messages when you update your graphics drivers.

  • Error: The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Obtain the appropriate driver from the computer's manufacturer. Setup will exit.
  • Error: This driver could not be installed on this computer. Contact the computer's manufacturer for further information.

Why am I getting this error?

Your computer manufacturer customizes drivers that run Intel® components on your machine.

In this case, the OEMs have a specific customized driver version, and they should only be installed if you need something specific for your system.

A Windows update might be a good idea, but Windows has a feature called device installation settings, which will automatically download manufacturers’ apps and custom icons for your devices. This feature depends on the Windows Update feature, it’s enabled by default.

So, when the system is updated, the devices’ drivers will be updated simultaneously; the effect is equal to installing drivers from the manufacturer's website. However, it can take some time for manufacturers to publish their latest driver updates in Windows Update.

To fix this issue, try manually installing the drivers using the driver downloaded from step 2.

What should I do if the warning comes back?

There might be a scenario where a Windows Update restores an older OEM driver version over the newly installed driver. If you want to use the specific driver(s), you need to disable automatic driver downloads.

Caution:

Disabling automatic driver downloads immediately stops all OEM updates from downloading and installing automatically as part of Windows Update.  This can affect performance, stability, and security outside of the Adobe application, in other ways.

  1. Click on the Start button and search for Control Panel

  2. In the Control panel, go to All Control Panel Items\System

  3. Go to Advanced system settings on the right-hand side under Control Panel Home

  4. Open Hardware tab.

  5. In the Device Installation Settings, select the No (Your device might not work as expected) radio button and click Save Changes
