Known compatibility issues
Adobe has discovered the following compatibility issues with running Adobe audio video applications with macOS 10.15 (Catalina).
No support for in-app updates
Applies to:
Adobe Media Encoder, Audition, Premiere Pro
Workaround: Directly update the app from the Creative Cloud desktop application.
Possible issues with 3rd party plugins
Applies to:
Audition, Premiere Pro
Issue: Audio plug-ins or hardware drivers may be incompatible or fail to install on macOS 10.15 (Catalina). This includes 3rd party and Audio Unit plug-ins, or audio interfaces with custom driver software, whose installers have not been updated to implement the stricter requirements.
For more information, see NOTICE: Mac OS 10.15 may be incompatible with some 3rd party audio plugins, drivers.
Changes to DV/HDV support on macOS 10.5
Applies to:
Premiere Pro, Audition, Adobe Media Encoder
Issue
Starting with macOS 10.15 Catalina, Premiere Pro, Audition, and Adobe Media Encoder no longer support the capture of DV and HDV over FireWire.
- This change does not impact other forms of tape capture.
- You can still edit DV/HDV files that have previously been captured.
- DV/HDV capture is still available with Premiere Pro on Windows.
Workaround
If you need access to DV/HDV ingest you can:
- On macOS: Use Premiere Pro 12.x and 13.x on macOS 10.13.6 (High Sierra) or 10.14 (Mojave)
- On Windows: Continue to use the latest versions of Premiere Pro with no impact.
Changes to GPU support
Applies to:
Premiere Pro, Adobe Media Encoder
With the 14.0 releases, CUDA support is no longer available on macOS and we will be deprecating support for OpenCL. We recommend transitioning to Apple Metal, including systems running NVIDIA graphics.
For more information, see Changes to GPU and DV/HDV support in Premiere Pro and Adobe Media Encoder on macOS.
Are legacy or perpetual versions of Adobe video and audio apps compatible with macOS Catalina?
No, legacy versions of the Adobe video and audio apps are not designed or tested to work on macOS 10.15 (Catalina). They are not supported on macOS Catalina.
Adobe does not recommend that customers using old versions of these apps upgrade to macOS Catalina.
Older versions use 32-bit licensing components and installers. Therefore, they cannot be installed and activated after upgrading to macOS Catalina. Upgrading to macOS Catalina with an older version already installed on your computer may provide limited functionality; however, you will not be able to reinstall or activate the application after the macOS upgrade.
Uninstall older versions before upgrading to macOS Catalina. The legacy uninstaller will not work after upgrading.
