Additional information

Follow these instructions to silently install Adobe Premiere Elements 8 on Windows with an Adobe volume license (AVL).

 PREPARING FOR A SILENT INSTALLATION

Some of these procedures require you to locate hidden files and hidden folders or to locate files by their full filenames, including extensions (for example, sample_filename.ini). By default, Windows Explorer does not show hidden files, hidden folders, and filename extensions that it recognizes.

See the following documents for details:

  • "Show hidden files, hidden folders, and all filename extensions in Windows Explorer (Windows XP)" (TechNote kb404856).
  • "Show hidden files, hidden folders, and all filename extensions in Windows Explorer (Windows Vista)" (TechNote kb404880).

 SILENT INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Copy the Adobe Premiere Elements folder from the Adobe Premiere Elements 8 installation DVD to your hard drive.
  2. Create an "application.xml.override" file:
    1. Open Notepad.
    2. Paste the following code into it:

      <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Configuration> <Payload> <Data key="EULADelay">0</Data> <Data key="Registration">Suppress</Data> <Data key="Updates">Suppress</Data> </Payload> </Configuration>
    3. Choose File > Save.
    4. From the Save As Type menu, choose All Files.
    5. From the Encoding menu, choose UTF-8.
    6. Type "application.xml.override" in the Filename box.
    7. Save the file in the Adobe Premiere Elements folder copied in Task 1.
  3. Optional] Open the Abcpy.ini file from the Adobe Premiere Elements folder copied in Task 1 in Notepad. The INSTALLTEMPLATES option is used to install the additional Movie themes
    1. Copy the Adobe Premiere Elements Templates folder from the Adobe Premiere Elements 8 Content installation DVD into the Adobe Premiere Elements folder copied in Step 1.
    2. Rename the Adobe Premiere Elements Templates folder 'Templates'.

Enter a value of 0 (INSTALLTEMPLATES=0) to prevent the additional Movie themes, DVD, and Title templates from being installed with the Adobe Premiere Elements installer.

Note: If the 'Templates' folder is not present in the Adobe Premiere Elements folder copied in Step 1, you must enter a value of 0.

DISABLEEMSFEATURES=0

The DISABLEEMSFEATURES option is used to disable the Photoshop.com membership features. Enter a value of 1 (DISABLEEMSFEATURES=1) to turn off the Photoshop.com membership features.

DISABLEOLSFEATURES=0 The DISABLEOLSFEATURES option is used to disable the retail online services and to display available educational online services. Enter a value of 1 (DISABLEOLSFEATURES=1) to disable retail online services and to display available educational online services.

Save the Abcpy.ini file and close Notepad.

  • To start the installation, open the Windows Command Prompt utility and enter the following line with the appropriate modifications:

<Path to OEM.exe> /UL#### /V"SERIALNUMBER=<AOO-volume-license-serial-number>"Replace <Path to OEM.exe> with the location of the OEM.exe in the Adobe Premiere Elements folder copied from installation DVD in Step 1.

Replace the #### symbols with the appropriate four-digit language code:

Brazilian Portuguese= 1046

Chinese Simplified= 2052

Dutch= 1043

English= 1033

French= 1036

German= 1031

Italian= 1040

Japanese= 1041

Spanish= 1034

Swedish= 1053

Replace <AOO-volume-license-serial-number> with your 24-digit volume license serial number.

Note: Be sure to include the dashes in the serial number.

Note: On Windows 7/Vista, a User Access Control (UAC) prompt sometimes appears when the installer starts, if UAC is enabled. To prevent the User Access Control prompt, disable UAC.

 VERIFYING A SILENT INSTALLATION

To verify the installation during the installation process:

  1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to open the Task Manager.
  2. Click the Processes tab. Observe that the OEM.exe is still listed (even if CPU usage is at 0) and that msiexec processes are running.
  3. The installation has finished once the OEM.exe process disappears from the list.

To verify the installation after the installation process finishes:

Verify that the following folders were added:

  • C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0
  • C:\Program Files\Adobe\Elements Organizer 8.0

 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • The EULADelay Data key is required for every silent installation.
  • The Registration Data key is optional. If you use it, the registration dialog does not appear when Adobe Premiere Elements is started and the Help > Registration option is dimmed or disabled.
  • The Updates Data key is optional. If you use it, Adobe Premiere Elements does not check for updates and the Help > Updates option does not appear.
