Dialog box

This error can occur when the Mac OS Launch Services database is in a temporary bad state because file associations aren't cached or have become corrupted.

Solution 1: Reopen the file

  1. Wait 30–60 seconds and then try to reopen the file.

  2. If the file doesn't open, quit and relaunch Photoshop, and then reopen the file.

Solution 2: Rebuild the Mac OS Launch Services database

  1. Quit Photoshop.

  2. Open the Terminal application by choosing Applications > Utilities > Terminal.

    Note:

Terminal can make profound changes to your computer. If you're not comfortable making this level of change, ask someone with more experience for assistance. If you do it yourself, be careful that you type in the line below exactly.

  3. Type (or cut and paste) the following comment exactly as it's written:

/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -r domain local -domain system -domain user

  4. Press Return.

  5. Close Terminal.

  6. Restart your computer.

  7. Reopen Photoshop and open your image.
