Adobe Captivate crashes on launch or creating a project

Issue

Adobe Captivate behaves unexpectedly when you launch the program or create a project.

Resolution

Follow the steps to resolve the issue.

  1. Close Adobe Captivate.

  2. Depending on the OS, follow the steps:

    Windows

    1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate\utils.
    2. Launch the file CleanPreferencesWin.bat.

     

    macOS

    1. Navigate to /Applications/Adobe Captivate/Utils.
    2. Launch CleanPreferencesMac.
  1. Close Adobe Captivate.

  2. Depending on the OS, follow the steps:

    Windows

    1. Navigate to C:\Users\Public\Documents\Adobe.
    2. Rename eLearning Assets to eLearning Assets_old.

     

    macOS

    1. Navigate to Documents/Adobe.
    2. Rename eLearning Assets to eLearning Assets_old.

The issue may relate to licensing. Follow the steps:

  1. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Adobe\SLStore. Delete the files inside the folder.

  2. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\SLCache. Delete the files inside the folder.

  3. Launch Captivate as Administrator.

  4. Recheck everything.

Depending on the OS, follow the steps:

Windows

Try running Adobe Captivate as Run as Administrator and check the issue again.

macOS

Try launching Adobe Captivate on the Root User account. Follow the steps mentioned in this document.
