What you learned: Using a variety of drawing and editing tools, including the Curvature tool, Pen tool, and Pencil tool, you finished artwork for a monoline badge

Draw using the Curvature tool

The Curvature tool simplifies path creation and makes drawing easy and intuitive. This tool enables you to create, toggle, edit, add, or remove smooth or corner points. With the Curvature tool, you can perform the following:

  • Click to create anchor points for curved paths (by default).
  • Select and drag an anchor point while drawing.
  • Click on the path to add a new anchor point.

Tip: With the Curvature tool, you can also select anchor points and press Delete or Backspace to remove them or double-click anchor points to convert between a corner or curve.

Draw using the Pen tool

The Pen tool allows you to be as precise as you need when drawing or editing paths. For example, you can create straight lines and curves with exacting control to get the artwork you want.

  1. With the Pen tool selected, click to start a path.
  2. To create a straight line followed by a curve, move the pointer to another area and drag in the direction of the line. This creates a line but so that the next part of the path is curved.
  3. Continue creating a series of S-shaped curves by dragging in the direction of the curve.

Tip: If you make a mistake when drawing an anchor point, you can choose Edit > Undo Pen and redraw the anchor.

Draw inside with the Pencil tool

The Pencil tool is used to create more freeform paths much like drawing with pencil and paper. In this tutorial, you draw a freeform path inside another path. In order to stay within the bounds of a path, you draw inside the path using Draw Inside mode.

  1. Select a path or shape. To draw inside a path or shape, click the Draw Normal button at the bottom of the Toolbar and choose Draw Inside.
  2. Create, paste, or place content. In the tutorial, a path is drawn using the Pencil tool. Any content outside the bounds of the path or shape is hidden (masked).
  3. To stop drawing inside, click the Draw Inside button at the bottom of the Toolbar and choose Draw Normal.

Note: Depending on the resolution of your screen, the drawing modes may appear as separate buttons toward the bottom of the Toolbar.

Erase paths

Using the Eraser tool, you can erase part of selected paths or shapes.

  1. Select the artwork.
  2. Select the Eraser tool in the Toolbar.
  3. Drag across the selected artwork to erase. Any artwork that is not selected is not erased.

Tip: To change the size of the eraser, press the right bracket key (]) to increase the size or left bracket key ([) to decrease the size.
