Issue

Installation issue occurs when both the MSI and Web (EXE) installers are used to install Flash Player.  The issue has the following characteristics:

  • Installation of the next Flash Player version fails with the erroneous message "The version of the Player that you are trying to install is lower than what is currently installed".
  • Two entries for the same Player type appear in Programs and Features.
  • Running the uninstaller also displays the erroneous message.
  • Running an MSI installer fails with the message that an installation is already in progress.

See bug 3928747 for more details.

This issue has been fixed in Flash Player version 16.0.0.305. However, impacted system must be cleaned to remove references to the versions containing this bug before installing the new, fixed, MSI.

  • This removes versions 15.0.0.152 through 16.0.0.296
  • If other versions of Flash Player are installed that exhibit this behavior, more MSI GUIDs are available at MSI GUIDs | Flash Player | Windows.
  1. Run the latest uninstaller Uninstall Flash Player | Windows.
  2. Deploy the new Flash Player installer.
