Make freehand selections with the Lasso tool

Select the Lasso tool (L) .

Use the Options bar to customize tool settings, like Add to selection, Subtract from selection, and Select and Mask, to get the effect you want.

Drag to draw a selection border around the object.

Release the mouse (without holding down Alt or Option) to close the selection border.
