Export After Effects project as Premiere Pro project

Learn to export an After Effects project as an Adobe Premiere Pro project without rendering.

You can export an After Effects project as a Premiere Pro project file (.prproj) file. When you import the project in Premiere Pro, it uses the settings from the first composition in the After Effects project for all subsequent sequences.

  1. Ensure that your After Effects composition is complete and ready for editing in Premiere Pro.

  2. Select File > Export > Export Adobe Premiere Pro Project.

  3. Specify a filename and location for the project, and select Save.

Here are a few things to consider when exporting an After Effects project as a Premiere Pro project:

  • If a video format can be imported in both After Effects and Premiere Pro – either by direct import or copy-paste, it should also be supported when opening an exported Premiere Pro project from After Effects in Premiere Pro.
  • Projects created in the latest version of Adobe After Effects and saved as Adobe Premiere Pro projects can be opened in the latest version of Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Currently, effects and masks are not supported.
  • Currently, Shape, Text, Light, Camera, 3D, and Cinema 4D layers are not supported.
