Fix blank Home screen or New Document window issue in Photoshop 2020

Ensure that UXPLogs.txt has read/write permissions

If UXPLogs.txt is Read Only, the Welcome Screen and New Document dialog will not display correctly.

  • (Windows) Navigate to \AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2020\Logs\UXPLogs.txt
  • (macOS) Navigate to ~/library/logs/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop 2020/UXPLogs.txt

Drag UXPLogs.txt to your desktop and restart Photoshop.

Note:

To navigate to the above location on macOS, you must access the hidden user library files. See Method 2 in this article to understand how.

Restore preferences

Reverting Photoshop’s preferences to their factory-fresh state can solve many issues (including program errors, strange tool or interface behavior, and so on).

See Restore preference files to default.

Uninstall and reinstall Photoshop

If an installation is damaged, uninstall and reinstall may fix the problem.

See the following links:

Rename the UXP folder

Rename the UXP folder to ~UXP.

  • (Windows) Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\UXP
  • (macOS) Navigate to Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/UXP

Disable the Home screen/New document windows

If you do not use the Home screen or the new New Document dialog, you can disable them.

Go to Edit (Windows) / Photoshop (Mac) > Preferences > General.

In the Preferences dialog, select the Use Legacy New Document Dialog and deselect the Auto-Show the Home Screen option.
