You use the Content & Layouts section of the On-Demand Portal to create articles and define properties. Once you create an article, you can then upload an article file authored in InDesign, an HTML editor, or a CMS.

To perform these tasks, your Adobe ID requires the appropriate Content permissions (such as Add & Edit Content or Publish Content) for the project.

Article Metadata settings

Article metadata is important in the publishing workflow. Some metadata options, such as Article Title and Abstract, can appear in card metadata fields. Other metadata options, such as Hide from Browse Page and Article Access, affect app behavior. And other metadata options, such as Article Importance and Department, can be used to determine how articles are mapped to cards.

Article Name Used for internal "navto" linking between articles. The Article Name should not have spaces, and it must be unique within the project.

Article Title The article title can appear in a card metadata fields.

Article Short Title Specify an optional shorter title that can be used instead of the longer article title for use in items such as cards.

Abstract Specify an article description.

Short Abstract Specify a shorter article description that can be used instead of the longer abstract for use in items such as cards.

Author Specify the Author's name.

Author URL Specify a URL for the author. If you add the Author URL to a card, for example, users can tap the author's name to display an in-app browser with information about the author.

Hide from Browse Page If you select this option, the article will not appear in the browse page of any collection to which the card is added. Users can get to the article only through hyperlinks.

Enable Extensibility Features Select this option if you use Cordova APIs or or App Runtime APIs in HTML. See Using Cordova plugins in AEM Mobile or Use Using AEM Mobile specific Cordova-enabled plugins.

Department/Category You can use the Department and Category options to help divide your app into sections.

Keywords Keywords are primarily used for mapping articles to cards. For example, you can map a large card to any article with a keyword value of "featured." In the future, the plan is for keywords to be used for searching within the app, allowing your users to filter articles by the keywords you specify.

Internal Keywords Internal keywords are used only for internal purposes, such as mapping cards to articles. Internal keywords will not be exposed to app users.

Article Access This option is used for collections that are set to Entitled or Restricted. If the article is set to Free, users can view the article anywhere in the app, even if the article is in a collection set to Entitled. If the article is set to Metered, users viewing an Entitled collection can view an article preview until they reach the specified threshold. (See Creating projects: Content settings.) If the article is set to Protected, users see a paywall when viewing either an entitled or protected collection.

Article Importance This option is especially useful for mapping cards to articles. For example, you can map articles with a high importance to larger cards.

Search Indexing Language Specify the language of the article used for in-app searching. An article will appear in search results only if its language setting matches the device language setting. (See Creating projects: Search.)

Uploading article images

The image thumbnail can appear as one of the cards on a collection browse page. In the app, tapping the thumbnail image opens the article. The image you specify is centered, scaled, and cropped as needed to fit within the card dimensions.

If you specify an image for social media, that image is used instead of the article image when articles are shared. The social media image is also centered and cropped as needed.

See Optimizing content used in AEM Mobile apps.

  1. In Content & Layouts, select Content to display the articles, and click the article you’re working on.
  2. Click Edit, and then click the Images tab. (You can also double-click the article to display article properties.)
  3. Click Upload, and then double-click the image file you want to use for the article thumbnail.
  4. If you prefer using a different image for shared articles, click upload to specify a Social Media image.
  5. Click Done.

Uploading article files

Editing, previewing, and managing articles

Editing, publishing, and deleting articles

When one or more articles are selected, do any of the following:

  • Click Edit or double-click the article to edit metadata settings. The metadata settings you specify apply to all selected content.
  • Click the Preflight icon in the upper right corner of the Portal to preview content in the AEM Preflight app or an app in which preflight is enabled. (See Previewing project content for AEM Mobile.)
  • Click Publish icon publish the article. (See Publishing content for AEM Mobile apps.)
  • Click Unpublish to unpublish the published article.
  • Click Delete to delete the article. (The article must be unpublished first.)

To create a new article, make sure that no articles are selected. The Add button will appear.

You can sort and filter content and collections in a limited way. Search is not yet supported.

  • To sort content, click the column heading text, and then click the arrow to switch between ascending and descending.
Sort content
  • To filter content, click the filter icon in the upper right corner. Select an item such as Title and specify the filter criteria. For Title and Department, you can select either Match Any or Match Exact. If you select Match Exact, your string must be an exact match. For example, typing "product" will be a match only if the title is "Product." If you select Match Any, specifying "product" would match titles named "Product Details," "Key Products," and "Value Productions."
Filter articles

Note the following limitations for partial word filtering:

  • The keyword must include at least the first four characters of any word in the title (or department) to result in a match.
  • You cannot use any of the following characters in the filter: *,-,+,<,>,(,),~,@,',"
  • Certain common English words such as "where," "this," and "that" are excluded as filter words. For example, if you specify "that," results would not include "That Great Nation."
  • The partial filter result set can not include more than 200 items. If your filter results in more than 200 items, you are prompted to narrow the results.
