Up your presentation game with animated bar graphs to present your data in a compelling way.

Prep your files

Open your graph file and make sure each layer of your project is separated. If your graph was created in Photoshop, remove any groups or artboards.

Bar graph using triangles is displayed on a pink background with bright, abstract shapes.

Open Adobe After Effects

Create a new composition. Input your dimensions and choose a time length for your animation.

Remind yourself of your awesomeness for learning a new skill!

Adobe After Effects logo is displayed on a computer monitor. Colorful abstract shapes fill the area around the monitor.

Input your files

Press Command+I and then input the files as a composition, retaining all layer sizes.

Bring your layers into your composition's timeline.

Bar graph is imported into After Effects, files are input as a composition, and layers are brought into composition timeline

Animate it! (aka the fun part)

Click on the first layer you’d like to animate. Select the Pan Behind Anchor Point Tool, and then click where you want your animation to start from.

Click the dropdown menu to reveal your transformation options and then set a duration (how long you want this layer to animate).

  • At the beginning of your duration, set your scale to: 0
  • At the end of your duration, set your scale to: 100
Layer is animated by selecting Pan Behind Anchor Point Tool, setting duration, beginning scale to 0, and ending scale to 100

Animate the remaining layers

Repeat steps 1 - 4 for each layer you want to animate.

Layers are animated, and bar graph is illustrated to show motion.

Export the composition

When you're finished animating the layers, export the animated bar graph.

“RENDER TO A GIF” is displayed on magenta background.
