Where are beta apps installed?

Beta builds are installed in their own folder—for example, Adobe Character Animator (Beta)—separate from the release versions of the app. This lets you evaluate beta builds without affecting the work you are doing with the release versions. Beta apps have separate preferences and default user documents folders that won't change the user settings in your existing installation.

How do I open beta apps?

  1. Open the Creative Cloud desktop app. (Select the   icon in your Windows taskbar or the macOS menu bar.)

  2. In the Apps panel, select Beta apps.

    Select Beta apps

You'll see a list of installed beta apps.

  3. Find your installed beta app and select Open.

What beta app usage information does Adobe collect, and what are my choices?

To personalize your experience and improve our products, Adobe may collect the following information:

  • System information, such as devices, operating system, amount of memory installed, and screen resolution
  • Adobe product information, such as version number
  • Information about your documents, such as the number of pages and unique document identifiers (but not the content in your documents)
  • Document usage information, such as how many times you open a document
  • How you interact with the Adobe apps and how the Adobe apps interact with your content, including the features you use and the options you select

Your regular app settings don't apply to beta apps. If you don't want to share beta app usage information with Adobe, you can continue to use the release versions of our apps.

Can I open projects from beta builds in release versions of my app?

Beta builds are designed to preserve compatibility with release versions so you can move files between the two. Moving project files from a beta build to the release version will drop features that are only available in beta, and sometimes not be possible at all.

How do I leave the beta program?

To leave the beta program, simply uninstall the beta builds at any time through the Creative Cloud desktop app.

  1. Open the Creative Cloud desktop app. (Select the   icon in your Windows taskbar or the macOS menu bar.)

  2. In the Apps panel, select Beta apps.

    Select Beta apps

  3. Select the three dots icon (…) for your app, and then select Uninstall.

Can beta apps be enabled to update automatically?

Beta builds are updated periodically. You can update beta builds when they become available.

You can also enable the Auto-update option for your apps in the Creative Cloud desktop app:

  1. Open the Creative Cloud desktop app. (Select the   icon in your Windows taskbar or the macOS menu bar.)

  2. Select the Account icon in the upper right, and then select Preferences.

    Select Preferences

  3. Select Apps, and then turn on Auto-update for your beta app.
