Defining a Power Automate flow
When defining a Power Automate flow, you start with an objective and determine what type of event should trigger the execution of the flow to achieve the objective.
The objective typically suggests itself as some result you would like to be automated. For example: "I would like all of my signed agreements to be uploaded into my OneDrive account."
Once an objective is known, a trigger type must be decided upon. There are three types of triggers:
- Instant/Manual - An instant trigger executes as the result of direct action, like selecting the Run this workflow button.
- Automated - Automated triggers execute when an event is detected, such as a status change or receiving an email.
- Scheduled - Scheduled triggers are executed based on crossing a time/date threshold, such as a daily notification or report delivery.
Understanding the objective and the trigger events will suggest the application and connectors required to achieve the desired result.
