Applications using Camera Raw 8.4 don't display metadata or allow editing

After you update to Camera Raw 8.4, Adobe applications using Camera Raw in Mac OS don't display image metadata or allow you to edit images in Camera Raw.

Solution: Manually install the Camera Raw 8.4 plug-in

  1. Exit Adobe applications that use the Camera Raw plug-in.

  2. Download the following file:

  3. Locate and double-click the downloaded file to decompress it. The resulting file is Camera Raw.plugin.

  4. Navigate to the Macintosh HD folder.

  5. Open the File Formats folder.

    1. For CS6 applications: Open the Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS6/File Formats folder.

    2. For Creative Cloud applications: Open the Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CC/File Formats folder.

IMPORTANT: Navigate to the root Library folder on your hard disk, not the Library folder under your user folder.

  6. Copy the Camera Raw.plugin file from step 3 into the File Formats folder.

If you need access to Camera Raw for CS6 and CC applications, install the Camera Raw plug-in to both the CS6 and CC File Formats folders.

IMPORTANT: This new file overwrites the file already in this folder. It's important that only one Camera Raw.plugin file is in this folder.

  7. Open the application using the Camera Raw plug-in.
