Unable to copy and paste from InDesign CS3 to Illustrator CS3 and Flash CS3 (Mac OS 10.5)

When you copy objects or images from InDesign CS3 to Illustrator CS3 or Flash CS3 nothing happens. This issue is specific to Leopard, Mac OS 10.5.x.

You can copy and paste selected text, rather than a selected text frame.

You can copy from Illustrator or Flash to InDesign.

You can copy from InDesign toPhotoshop.

Do one of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Install the most recent InDesign CS3 update.

Download the update from the Adobe website at http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/.

Solution 2: Set the Indesign preferences for Clipboard Handling to Prefer PDF

  1. Go do InDesign > Preferences > Clipboard Handling
  2. Select "Copy PDF to Clipboard" and "Prefer PDF When Pasting"
  3. Do at least one copy/paste action of an object from Illustrator to InDesign.
  4. Copy/paste from InDesign to Illustrator

Note: Copy and Paste will then work as expected until the computer is rebooted.

Additional Information

Some causes for this behavior was addressed in InDesign 5.0.2 update.

Adobe Illustrator appears to be unable to accept PDF data from an external copy/paste action until it has had to create PDF clip/paste data itself internally.
