Learn how to move clips between the main track and overlay track in Premiere mobile for flexible layering and creative edits.
Moving clips to overlay timelines lets you layer multiple clips, create effects, or add elements like titles and graphics without affecting the main footage. Overlay timelines link to the main timeline, so clips stay in sync when editing.
In the timeline, tap the clip you want to move.
Drag the clip from the main track to the overlays.
Clips on overlay timelines can be moved independently, but they remain linked to the main timeline clip. If you move or delete the main clip, the overlay clip will move or be deleted as well.
In the timeline, tap the clip you want to move.
From the options at the bottom of the screen, tap Overlay. The clip is placed directly above its original position in the overlay timeline. You can also drag clips from the main track to the overlays.

To move the clip back to the main track, tap the same option, now labeled Move to main.
Editing actions like duplicate, replace, color adjustments, fit/fill, and flip are available for overlay clips, just like on the main timeline.
