XD brings in Sketch elements and effects that can be mapped to XD’s functionality, some layers or effects may not transfer to the XD file.

Here is a complete list of supported and unsupported features when you open a Sketch file in XD.

Features Supported in XD? What's missing?
Shapes and paths

Partial support
  • Asymmetrical points imported as symmetrical.
  • Arrows transferred as lines with no arrowheads.
Images Partial support
  • Image fill is partially supported. XD simulates the effect by importing the image and rectangle with transparency.
  • Image adjustments (hue, saturation, brightness, contrast) are supported.
  • Blur - Gaussian blur is supported, but zoom and motion blur are not supported.
Fills, border, and shadows Partial support
  • Multiple fills are imported as separate layers.
  • Multiple borders are imported as separate layers.
  • Gradients on borders are not imported.

The following fills are not supported:

  • Pattern fills

The following shadow types are not supported:

  • Multiple shadows (only the topmost shadow is imported)
  • Group shadows
  • Component shadows
  • Shadow spread

  • Baseline adjustment (subscript, superscript)

  • Character spacing
  • Text on path
  • Importing a text with a custom line height
Components  Partial support
  • Component size overrides are transferred as groups decoupled from the original component.
  • Resize constraints are not supported, objects inside the components are resized as pinned to all edges.
  • Components are visible as sticker sheets on the XD canvas. They are also available in the Assets panel.
Libraries Partial support
  • Libraries content is imported inside the XD document but are not made available in Libraries.
  • With the Convert Sketch Library features, Sketch libraries can be converted to XD Cloud Documents and automatically linked to the current document.
