With Generative Remove, powered by Adobe Firefly generative AI, you can easily remove distractions and unwanted objects in a photo. Once you identify and highlight an object using the brush mask, Adobe Firefly automatically removes it and generates a fill that blends with the rest of the frame.

- Generative Remove is currently available as Early Access in Lightroom Classic.
- The Heal panel in Lightroom Classic has been renamed to Remove.
- To use Generative Remove, you need to be connected to the internet, while the Remove, Clone, and Heal tools work without an internet connection.
Use Generative AI to remove distractions in Lightroom Classic
The Generative AI option in the Remove tool uses Adobe Firefly to effectively remove distractions in a photo. This new feature in Lightroom Classic is perfect for removing unwanted objects like vehicles, signboards, poles, and more, even on complex backgrounds.

Brush over the object you want to remove. Adjust the brush Size and the overlay Opacity to select with precision.

Once you have brushed over the object, use the Refine tools to make the following selections:
- Add - Add a brush to refine the selection.
- Subtract - Remove unwanted areas from the selection.
You can adjust the brush Size in Mask Refinement.

Lightroom Classic uses Adobe Firefly to generate three different variation options for you. You can also select Refresh to develop three new variations.

Select as necessary:
- Tool Overlay - This helps you view the pins when you hover over an image. It also controls when to show the pins of your removed spots when you hover over the image.
- Visualize Spots - This tool helps you visualize spots to make accurate selections. It shows a high-contrast overlay for certain scenarios.
- Tool Overlay - This helps you view the pins when you hover over an image. It also controls when to show the pins of your removed spots when you hover over the image.

- If you don't want the mask refinement to open automatically, press Cmd (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows)
while doing the mouse-up after brushing a new area. - Press the Escape key to hide the spot outline or to unselect the spot without changing the tool overlay.
- Ensure to include the shadows of the objects you want to remove for best results.
Object Aware remove in Lightroom Classic
Object Aware lets you detect an object within the brushed area to help you make a precise selection when you want to preserve as many details as possible from the scene.
- Object Aware can only be used with Content-Aware Remove and Generative Remove and isn't available for Heal or Clone.
- Content-Aware Remove is used whenever the Generative AI checkbox is unchecked.
- With Content-Aware Remove, press Cmd (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows) and drag an area on the image to sample an area.

In the Develop module, select Remove > Object Aware.

Brush over the object you want to remove. Adjust the brush Size and the overlay Opacity to make a precise selection.

Once you have selected an object, you can use the Refine controls to make the following selections:
- Add - Add a brush to refine the selection.
- Subtract - Remove unwanted areas from the selection.
You can adjust the brush Size in the Refine menu and change the Overlay color.

Generative AI can be used in combination with Object Aware to analyze and automatically select the object and then remove it with Adobe Firefly for optimal results.

Select Reset if you want to cancel the changes made.
