Learn how to customize avatars in Adobe Captivate at project and slide levels. Adjust appearance, voice, and display options to create engaging learning experiences.

Overview

In Adobe Captivate, use avatars at the project and slide levels to design a course that feels consistent and flexible.

  • Project level: Set a default avatar that appears on every slide. This keeps your course consistent and saves time.
  • Slide level: Change or customize avatars on specific slides to add variety and match different topics or tones.

Both levels let you control:

  • Avatar appearance: Choose gender, ethnicity, and style.
  • Voice options: Select accent, language, and tone.
  • Display settings: Show full view, close-up, or audio-only.
  • Background design: Adjust or replace backgrounds to fit your course theme.

For instance, you might use a formal avatar for policy training and a friendly one for scenario-based lessons. Combining consistency with personalization helps your course feel professional, relatable, and engaging.

Customize an AI avatar for the project

After setting up your avatar, you can further customize it at the project level by adjusting its appearance, ethnicity, gender, style, and voice.

Use project-level avatar settings to:

  • Ensure consistency across the entire course.
  • Deliver formal training or compliance content with a uniform narration style.
  • Maintain a specific brand style or tone throughout the course.
  • Apply the avatar once and automatically include it on all slides, saving time and effort.
  1. Select Project properties > Customize avatar.

Best practices for customizing an AI Avatar

Choose the right avatar

  • Corporate training: Use professional styling—neutral or business attire, confident posture.
  • Creative courses: Be casual or artistic—expressive gestures, approachable demeanor.
  • Diverse audiences: Reflect your learners and, if possible, test with them to ensure connection.

Pick the right voice

  • Match the content: Formal for policies, conversational for tutorials, energetic for motivational content.
  • Consider the audience: Use familiar accents, age-appropriate tones, and culturally suitable voices for global learners.

Set the display style

  • Normal view: When there’s space, gestures add value, and you want full engagement.
  • Close-up: When space is tight, content is personal, or you want a more intimate feel.
  • Audio-only: When slides are crowded, content is purely informational, or you want minimal distractions.
Pastaba:

If a transcript has already been generated for the avatar video, changing the avatar's appearance or voice will not automatically update the narration, as the video is already rendered. To apply the updated avatar and voice, regenerate the video after making changes.
