Remove objects from a photo in just a few steps.

With Generative Remove, powered by Adobe Firefly generative AI, you can easily remove distractions like tourists and unwanted objects from complex backgrounds. 

Additionally, access:

  • Remove tool - Lets you brush away an area of your photo and fill it with generated content.
  • Clone tool - Replicates the pixels from the source to the target area. 
  • Heal tool - Considers the colors and tones surrounding the target area, borrows content, and blends everything.

Detect Object

With the Detect Object feature, circle or scribble over the object you want to remove from a photo. Ensure your brushes cover the main object and any related lighting elements like shadows and reflections. Lightroom will automatically detect and remove the object and fill in the area with the generated content.

Generative Remove

With the Generative Remove feature, you can easily remove distractions and unwanted elements like sign boards, tourists, and objects in a photo. Brush over the object you want to remove or retouch in your picture. Adobe Firefly automatically removes it and generates a fill that perfectly blends in with the rest of the image. 

Refine Remove

Once you have removed the object using Generative Remove and Detect Object, select   or Refine to see more options: 

  • Variations: Choose from the different options generated with the help of Generative AI. Select   to Report or Delete a variation.
  • Opacity: Controls the opacity of the adjustments applied to the target area.
  • Restore: Deletes the selection. 

You can select from the variations you like or select Done to continue with the selected variation. You can also select Restore   to discard the variations generated.

In refine remove panel, Generative AI toggle button, Variations, Opacity and restore button is displayed.
Select the Variations arrow to check the variations that are generated.

Using Remove tool

  1. In Lightroom on mobile, open a photo in the Edit view and select Remove  .

    By default, the Generative AI toggle is enabled. Turn it off before using Detect objects.  

  2. Toggle the Detect Object and then circle or scribble the object you want to remove or retouch in your photo. Lightroom will automatically detect and remove the object. 

    Brush over an object to manually select it. 

  3. Change the size or opacity as necessary.

    • Brush Size: Specifies the diameter of the brush tip in pixels.

    Select the Refine button to see more options: 

    • Refresh: Re-fills the brushed area with another source content.
    • Opacity: Controls the opacity of the adjustments applied to the target area.
    • Restore: Deletes the selection. 
  4. To confirm the edits, select  .

    Select   or   to move back or forward in your edits, one step at a time.

Using Heal tool

  1. In Lightroom on mobile, open a photo in the Edit view and select Remove  .

  2. Select   >   Heal.

  3. Change the size or opacity as necessary.

    • Brush Size: Specifies the diameter of the brush tip in pixels.

    With the Heal tool selected, brush over the object you want to retouch in your photo. Select and paint over the imperfection or object you want to retouch. Lightroom will automatically sample nearby pixels to blend the area. 

  4. Select the Refine button to see more options: 

    • Feather: Controls the soft-edged transition between the brushed area and the surrounding pixels in the target area.
    • Opacity: Controls the opacity of the adjustment applied to the target area.
    • Restore: Deletes the selection. 

    You can also change the size for spot-type adjustments. 

  5. To confirm the edits, select  .

Using Clone tool

  1. In Lightroom on mobile, open a photo in the Edit view and select Remove  .

  2. Select   >   Clone.

  3. Change the size or opacity as necessary.

    • Brush Size: Specifies the diameter of the brush tip in pixels.

    With the Clone tool selected, brush over the object you want to remove or retouch in your photo. You'll notice two white marquee areas after brushing over the object in your image. The marquee area with solid lines over your painted object designates the target area. The dashed lines denote the source area.

  4. Select the Refine button to see more options: 

    • Feather: Controls the soft-edged transition between the brushed area and the surrounding pixels in the target area.
    • Opacity: Controls the opacity of the adjustment applied to the target area.
    • Restore: Deletes the selection. 

    You can also change the size for spot-type adjustments. 

  5. To confirm the edits, select  .
