What are backdrops?
Backdrops display a reference image behind your working layer in the Liquify filter. They help you make precise edits, align distortions, and compare before and after states while you work.
Backdrop options in Liquify
In the Liquify dialog box, expand the Backdrop section:
- Use: Select a source layer as your backdrop.
- Mode: Choose how the backdrop blends with your current layer, for example, Behind or In Front.
- Opacity: Adjust the transparency to balance the visibility of your edits and the reference image.
Tips for working with backdrops
- Lower opacity, around 50% is helpful for portrait retouching to maintain natural proportions.
- Toggle the backdrop on and off to check your progress.
- Use backdrops with multi-layer projects to align edits more accurately.
