Problem: Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE server

In Acrobat, combining multiple files into single PDF results in the error - "Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE server."



To resolve the problem, try the following solutions in the order they appear below.

Solution 1:


It's recommended to take a backup of the Windows registry before making any changes to it.

  1. Open the Windows Registry Editor:

    1. Click Start > Run.
    2. Type Regedit in the Open field and then click OK.
  2. Navigate to following registry key:

  3. Take a backup: Right-click the Application key and export it to your desktop.

  4. Change the key "AcroviewA18" to "AcroviewR18".

    (Here, the value of A and R depends on the version of Acrobat installed. For example, for Acrobat 2018, the value will be A18.)

  5. Close the registry editor and Acrobat.

    Relaunch Acrobat and see whether the problem is resolved. If not, try the next solution.

Solution 2:

  1. Check whether an Anti-virus program is installed on the machine.

  2. If yes, disable the program. Check whether the problem is resolved.

  3. Update your Acrobat to the latest version, and check whether the problem is resolved.

    To automatically update from Acrobat, choose Help > Check for updates. Follow the steps in the Updater window to download and install the latest updates.
