What are Content Credentials?
Content Credentials are secure metadata that can be attached to digital content to provide information about who created a piece of content and how it was created or edited. They act like a nutrition label for digital content, helping people better understand the origin and history of an image, video, audio file, document, or other digital content.
Content Credentials are based on C2PA, an open standard, which Adobe co-founded. It can help creators receive attribution for their work while providing greater transparency.
How are Content Credentials applied?
In supported Adobe applications, creators can choose to attach more detailed Content Credentials to their work. Applying Content Credentials to an asset can include information such as:
Verified name
Social media accounts
An overview of edits
These Content Credentials help creatives maintain attribution and provide audiences with additional context about the content.
How to apply Content Credentials?
While Content Credentials must be turned on for each document in Photoshop to record edits and activities, Camera Raw already records this information in a way that Content Credentials can reference when you export your files.
In the Content Credentials section, select the Apply Content Credentials option.
Select the Storage method:
- Publish to Content Credentials cloud - This lets you publish the information on a public Content Credentials cloud separate from the cloud file storage included in your Adobe plan. This option makes Content Credentials persistent and recoverable. It keeps files smaller but less private since Content Credentials published to the cloud may appear in results when people search for content that matches or closely resembles your own.
- Attach to files - This makes their information more private but increases file sizes.
- Attach and publish to cloud - This option lets you attach files directly and publish them to the Content Credentials cloud, providing the most storage security for your Content Credentials.
Select the Information to include:
- Adobe account name - The name listed on your Adobe account.
- Connected accounts - Select your preferred social media account. You can connect your Behance, Instagram, or other social media accounts by clicking (Manage).
- Edits and activity - The editing and processing actions taken to produce the final image.
Select other fields in the Save Options dialog box and then select Save. Once the content credentials are uploaded, you can check them on Adobe Inspect.
Note
The Content Credentials are supported in all file formats, except Photoshop and OpenEXR. When exporting, select the required format from the Format drop-down menu.
Tip
If the Content Credentials are missing after your content is published online, they can be recovered with Adobe Inspect. In Adobe Inspect, your published Content Credentials may appear as possible matches for content that is visually similar to your own.
