Learn how to align graphic objects with grids.

Select View > Show Grid.

Select the object you want to align using the Selection tool.

Select View > Snap to Grid.

Move the selected objects close to a grid line.

Note

Illustrator snaps the object to the gridline when its boundaries come within two pixels of it.

Illustrator switches from Snap to Grid to Snap to Pixel when you select View > Pixel Preview.

The View menu is displayed on the screen showcasing various options like Snap to Grid, Snap to Pixel, Snap to Point, and more.
Select Hide Grid from the View menu to turn off the grid display.

Select Edit > Preferences > Guides & Grid (Windows) or Illustrator SettingsGuides & Grid (macOS).

In the Preferences dialog box, adjust the given Grid settings as needed:

  • Color: Sets the Color of the grid lines.
  • Style: Specifies whether the Grid appears as Lines or Dots.
  • Gridline every: Defines the distance between major gridlines.
  • Subdivisions: Divides each major Grid square into smaller units.

Select OK.
