Learn how to save and access cloud documents, work offline, and place Photoshop cloud documents in InDesign.

Why cloud documents?

InDesign cloud documents are Adobe's cloud-native document file type that can be accessed online or offline directly from the InDesign application. You can access cloud documents on any device where InDesign is installed.

Work seamlessly across devices with InDesign cloud documents. Sign in with your Creative Cloud account to access it on any device.

Try it in the app

Follow along with any project to learn how to use InDesign cloud documents.

Save InDesign files as cloud documents

You can save any InDesign file to the cloud and work seamlessly from anywhere, anytime.

  1. Open any InDesign document and select File > Save or Save as.

  2. Select Save to Adobe cloud storage. Check Don't show again for InDesign to remember the save selection from your last session and provide the same experience every time you save a document.

  3. Select either   Your files or Projects, wherever you want to save your document.

InDesign cloud documents are saved with the .inddc extension, and a cloud symbol   is displayed on the tab name to indicate that you're working on a cloud document.

Save to Adobe Cloud dialog box showing options to name the file, choose projects, or save locally to the computer.
Save your document to Adobe Cloud with project and local storage options.

Tip

InDesign cloud documents are saved automatically as you work. A version history is also maintained for each save operation performed manually.

Access InDesign cloud documents

InDesign cloud documents ensure your work is always up-to-date across devices with complete fidelity. After you save an InDesign document as a cloud document, you can access it from:

  • Your files   tab on the InDesign Home screen.
  • Files   tab on the Creative Cloud website, or the Creative Cloud desktop application.

Work on InDesign cloud documents when offline

  1. Launch InDesign and select Your files.

  2. Select a cloud document and then select the Sync for 7 days   icon.

Screenshot of the InDesign Homescreen with highlights for Your files tab and Make available offline always button.
Select Sync for 7 days to work on your documents without the internet.

    Tip

Identify if your documents are available online or offline with the following icons:

      Available offline

      Online-only

      Copy collaboration is enabled

When the Sync for 7 days option is enabled, your selected files are cached locally and remain accessible for up to seven days, even without internet connectivity. This ensures you can continue working on your important files during travel or in limited network conditions, with automatic updates once you reconnect.

Place Photoshop cloud documents in InDesign

  1. Open a new or an existing InDesign document.

  2. Go to File > Place.

  3. Select Open Cloud Document and select the Photoshop cloud document (.psdc) that you want to place into your current InDesign document.

  4. Select Place.
