Add video background to Adobe Muse web pages

Adobe Muse is no longer adding new features and will discontinue support on March 26, 2020. For detailed information and assistance, see Adobe Muse end-of-service FAQ.

Adobe Muse lets you add videos to web page background. Typically, video backgrounds are added set to auto-play on loading a page. Video backgrounds can contribute to highly inspirational web content.

The Background Video widget in Adobe Muse lets you add video background to a web page with a few clicks. The widget is fully configurable, and requires you to supply a YouTube or Vimeo video URL.

Download Background Video widget

  1. Click the Get This Widget button.

The Background Video widget is downloaded to your default Downloads folder. Depending on the browser, you used to download the widget and the operating system on your computer, the Downloads folder is configured differently.

Add and configure video background

To add a video background to a web page, do the following:

  1. In Adobe Muse, select Window > Library to open the Library panel. If you haven't already done so, click the button, and import the Background Video widget.

For information about downloading Background Video widget, see Download Background Video widget.

  2. In the Library panel, select Background Video > Background Video, and drag the widget on to the web page canvas.

  3. Select the Background Video widget, and click button to bring up the Options panel.

  4. In the Options panel, enter the following:

    YouTube/Vimeo Video URL

Specify URL of the Vimeo or YouTube video you want to add as the video background. Ensure that you copy the full URL in to the video URL field.

    For example,

    Audio Volume

Specify audio volume level for the video background. If you want to mute the audio, set the volume to zero.

    Hide Video (Design Time)

Lets you stop the video from playing when you're designing and when you preview the site. The Hide Video option can be helpful, when you want to make changes to the site and preview, but do not want the video background to load each time.

    Allow Video Controls

You can enable playback controls for the video background. The controls are visible when a site visitor hovers over the video area.

    Use HD when possible

YouTube and Vimeo support HD video. When selected, the option allows the widget to intelligently decide whether to render an HD or SD version of the video.

    Loop Video

Specify whether you want the video to play in continuous loop.

    Hide Adverts

Allow the video background to zoom in on the video playback and hide any advert overlays.

  5. Click outside the Options panel to finish. Preview the web page or the site using Preview mode in Adobe Muse or select File > Page in Browser option.
