Responsive HTML5 output not optimized for Google search

Learn how to make your Responsive HTML5 output in FrameMaker and RoboHelp searchable by Google.

Issue

Responsive HTML5 output generated through FrameMaker (2015 release) and RoboHelp (2015 release) is not optimized for newer implementation of Google search algorithm.

Reason

When a topic in Responsive HTML5 output is accessed by clicking on its direct link from Web search, the link gets redirected and the responsive layout is applied on this topic. The Web crawlers (including Google) do not index pages that have JavaScript redirects applied on them.

Resolution

The updated publishing process in FrameMaker (2015 release) Update 5 and RoboHelp (2015 release) Update 4 do not redirect topic pages to layout home page. This allows Google to crawl and index information available on the page. Now, when a user clicks on a topic link from Google, the topic page is shown without the responsive layout. However, a Show link is added at the top of the page. When a user clicks the Show link, the responsive layout is applied on the page.

To resolve this issue, republish your Responsive HTML5 output using Adobe FrameMaker (2015 release) Update 5 and RoboHelp (2015 release) Update 4.
