Welcome to Adobe Drive 4. This document contains late-breaking product information, updates, and troubleshooting tips not covered in the Adobe Drive documentation.
Overview
Adobe Drive is a product that enables seamless integration of an asset-management system with Adobe Creative Suite® 6 applications. A connected server appears on your computer as a mounted hard drive or mapped network drive. Once connected, you can access server files in several ways. You can use Windows Explorer or MAC OS Finder, as well as Open, Import, Export, Place, Check In, Save, or Save As dialog boxes in Adobe Photoshop®, Adobe Bridge, Adobe Illustrator®, Adobe InDesign®, and Adobe InCopy®.
Adobe Drive 4 includes two predefined connectors:
- The Adobe CQ Digital Asset Management Connector enables access to Adobe CQ Digital Asset Management (CQ DAM)
- The CMIS Connector enables basic access to servers that implement the Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification.
Adobe Drive can be extended to support access to 3rd party asset management systems. Asset management vendors can provide a custom connector for Adobe Drive to enable use of assets stored in their repository. Once customized by a Digital Asset Management (DAM) vendor, Adobe Drive represents the contents of the remote DAM system as a network drive on the user's file system and enables the use of "light-up" user functions inside Creative Suite applications, such as viewing version history or adding a check-in comment when saving a file. These Creative Suite features are present only when Adobe Drive (along with a DAM vendor's custom connector) is installed on the user's machine. Check with your asset management vendor to verify availability of an Adobe Drive 4 connector for their system.
What's new in this release
Adobe Drive 4 includes the following key updates and several important bug fixes.
Integration with CS6
Adobe Drive 4 fully integrates with Creative Suite 6 products, including Adobe Photoshop 32/64bit, Adobe Bridge 32/64bit, Adobe Illustrator 32/64bit, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe InCopy.
Automatic check-in for file added from Finder or Explorer
You can now choose to automatically check in new files that are added in a connected folder through the file system (Mac OS Finder or Windows Explorer).
- Automatic check-in is enabled by default; you can de-select the option in the Settings dialog to disable the feature.
- When the feature is enabled, files are automatically checked in when you create them in a connected folder, or when you copy new files into a connected folder.
- You can add a default string in the Settings dialog to use as the check-in comment for newly added files.
Server connection display name
When you add a new Adobe Drive connection, you can specify a customized display name for that connection. The display name is show for the connection icon and the file system volume name.
If you do not specify a Display Name value, the connection URL is shown to identify the connection.

Known issues
These problems are known to occur in this release. For the latest updates on known issues, go to: http://helpx.adobe.com/drive.html
- For issues that occur when connecting to a CQ DAM server, see the CQ DAM Connector Tech Note.
- For issues that occur when connecting to a CMIS server, see the CMIS Connector Tech Note.
- After editing and saving an asset in Illustrator, this error message appears: "This file has been modified outside Illustrator." You can safely ignore this message. [2904131]
- In Illustrator, the "Check in" menu item is still enabled when you are working offline. If you choose it, nothing happens. [2941287]
- When you connect to or disconnect from a server through the Adobe Drive Connect UI, if Adobe Bridge is open it switches to the front and back of the screen multiple times. [3177120]
- If you open an up-to-date PSD file in Photoshop, edit it, and then cancel a Save As operation, the file returns to the up-to-date status and cannot be checked in. In order to check it in, you must do a further edit and save it again. [2850992]
- You cannot create a Collection in Adobe Bridge from files managed by a connected server. [2937176]
- [Windows only] If you have a file open and checked out in InDesign, and another user renames or moves that file, you get a message that the file has been deleted, and you can no longer edit that file or check it in. [2936906]
- When you have edited a checked-out document and it is open in InDesign when the connection with the server is lost, if you attempt to save it, In Design hangs. Workaround: After you are warned that the connection was lost, use Save As rather than Save to save your changes locally. [2947072]
- If you are working on a new file in InDesign while in offline mode and move it to a different managed folder, you can no longer open the file in InDesign. To open it, close InDesign and copy the file to a different location, then restart InDesign and open the file from the new location. [3133365]
- If you open an up-to-date managed file in InDesign while online, then go into offline edit mode, you cannot save the edited file. Use Save As to save a new temporary version of your changes locally. [3133357]
- [Mac OS only] If you try to drag-and-drop a managed file from Adobe Bridge into an InDesign or Illustrator document, you get a text frame in the open document rather than a placed file. [3150063]
- When you export a managed InDesign file that contains external file links to InDesign Markup Language (IDML), the paths for those links depend on how you connected to the DAM server with Adobe Drive. If you connect to the server using an IP address, export the file, then connect to the server another time using the domain name and export the file, the links within the file are written differently. In particular, if you specify a display name when you connect to the server, the paths for links in the exported IDML are incorrect. [3196611]
Workaround: When connecting to a server through Adobe Drive, always use the same type of path specification (domain name or IP address) to connect to a server that manages InDesign files. Avoid using a display name for the connection, as this always results in an invalid reference.
