Learn about tooltips and how to turn them on or off in Adobe Photoshop.

Tooltips provide helpful information about tools and features. When you hover over a tool, panel option, or icon, a tooltip appears with a short description.

Photoshop provides two types of tooltips.

  • Standard tooltips: Display the tool name and keyboard shortcut.
  • Rich tooltips: Display a description and a short video of the tool in action.

Manage tooltip settings

By default, the tooltips appear in Photoshop. You can control the display of standard tooltips or rich tooltips.

  • To turn off the tooltips, select Edit > Preferences Tools, then deselect Show Tooltips and Show Rich Tooltips.
  • To turn on the tooltips, select Edit > Preferences Tools, then select Show Tooltips and Show Rich Tooltips.
