Learn what to do when the Libraries panel doesn't load or when you experience the "Something went wrong initializing Creative Cloud Libraries" error.

Note:

If you uninstall the Creative Cloud desktop app and reinstall it as part of some troubleshooting, the Libraries panel inside a Creative Cloud desktop app may stop working. To resolve the problem, see Libraries panel stopped working.

Error "Something went wrong initializing Creative Cloud Libraries"

When attempting to use the Creative Cloud Libraries in supported desktop applications or in the Creative Cloud desktop app, the panel doesn't load and returns the following errors:

How to work around the error

Try these solutions in the given sequence. Continue to the next solution only if a previous one doesn't work.  

  1. Close any open Adobe products that use Libraries, including:

    • Photoshop
    • Illustrator
    • InDesign
    • Premiere Pro
    • Adobe After Effects
  2. Open the Creative Cloud desktop app. (Select the  icon in your Windows taskbar or the macOS menu bar.)

  3. Use the following keyboard shortcuts:

    • macOS: Command+Option+R
    • Windows: Ctrl+Alt+R

    This relaunches Creative Cloud and all its support processes, including Creative Cloud Libraries.

  4. Relaunch the Adobe product in which you received the Libraries error.

  1. Close all Creative Cloud applications. 

  2. Sign out of the Creative Cloud desktop app. 

    See Activate and deactivate Adobe Creative Cloud apps.

  3. Navigate to the following folder.

    • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/
    • Windows: C:\Users\[Your User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe

    Note:

  4. Delete the Creative Cloud Libraries folder.

  5. Log into your account in the Creative Cloud desktop app and relaunch the Adobe product in which you received the Libraries error.

  1. Navigate to the following folder:

    • macOS: /etc
    • Windows: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

    Note:

    macOS: This folder is normally hidden. In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder. Then, type in "/etc" (without quotes) and select the Go button.

  2. Open the hosts file (in a simple text editor like Notepad or TextEdit).

  3. Verify that you do not have any Adobe websites listed. If any are listed, you can delete them or add # at the beginning of the line to comment them out.

    For example, change: 

    127.0.0.1 activate.adobe.com

    to

    #127.0.0.1 activate.adobe.com

  4. Verify that you have the following line and that it is not commented out (does not have # at the beginning): 

    127.0.0.1 localhost

  5. (Optional) Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to repair your hosts file. To read instructions, see Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems.

Mac OS X

If your network is managed via Auto proxy discovery or Automatic proxy configuration, see Configuration of proxy by a network administrator.

  1. Open System Preferences from the Apple menu.

  2. Select Network.

  4. Select the Proxies tab.

  5. Ensure that the option Exclude Simple Hostnames is selected.

Windows 10

If your network is managed via Automatically detect settings or Use setup script, see Configuration of proxy by a network administrator.

  1. In the search box, type Change proxy settings and open the corresponding search result.

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the Proxy Settings dialog box and ensure that the option Don't use proxy server for local (intranet) addresses is selected.

Windows 7

  1. Choose Start > All Programs > Internet Explorer.

  2. Select the Tools icon (Gear icon in IE 9+) and choose Internet Options from the menu.

  3. Go to the Connections tab and select LAN settings.

  4. Ensure that the Bypass proxy server for local addresses option is selected.

Configuration of proxy by a network administrator

If your network is managed by a network administrator using the Auto proxy discovery or Automatic proxy configuration options on macOS or Automatically detect settings or Use automatic configuration script on Windows, learn how to enable Creative Cloud Libraries.

Ask your organization's network administrator to perform the following steps:

  1. Open the PAC/WPAD proxy configuration file.

  2. Ensure that the following setting is present:
