Learn how to transform transcripts into synchronized avatar videos in Adobe Captivate. Generate narration for individual slides or entire projects with lip-synced delivery.

Overview

AI Avatar generation converts your text transcripts into synchronized video presentations. You can create narration videos for individual slides or generate them for the entire project at once.

This feature lets you:

  • Preview how the avatar’s lip-sync and speech match your transcript.
  • Edit transcripts, voices, or avatars before finalizing.
  • Add multiple transcripts to a slide, triggered when the slide loads or when learners interact with objects.
  • Apply project-wide generation to maintain consistency across all slides.

The avatar delivers your content naturally with synchronized speech.

Before you start
  • Plan your generation:
    • Single slide generation is useful when you want to control narration for specific moments or interactions on that slide.
    • Project-wide generation is ideal when you want to process all transcripts at once, ensuring consistency across slides.
  • Check your credits: Avatar generation uses AI credits from your Adobe account. Ensure you have sufficient credits before generating narration. Learn more about Generative AI credits.
  • Review your transcripts: Ensure your transcripts are final before generating. Any changes made after generation require reprocessing and will incur additional credits.

Generate avatar narration for a single slide

Convert the transcripts on one slide into an avatar video and review the result immediately. Use this method when you want to test or quickly update specific content.

  1. Select the slide that contains the avatar and corresponding transcripts.

  2. Select Generate to convert the transcript to video. The time required to convert a transcript into a video depends on the transcript’s length. Once generation is complete, you can preview the avatar's lip-sync and delivery.

Best practices for avatar video generation

Here are some of the best practices for optimizing the use of avatars in Adobe Captivate, ensuring engaging, accessible, and professional e-learning experiences.

Näpunäide:

Play the transcript to check the audio narration playback before generating narration. This preview ensures that pauses, tone of voice, and pacing are as desired. Credits will not be deducted for previewing, making it a safe way to validate your transcript before committing to generation.

Write effective transcripts

Keep sentences short and conversational. Use simple words and avoid jargon. Add phonetic spellings for technical or uncommon terms in brackets. Read the transcript aloud to check its flow. Split long paragraphs into smaller parts with pauses.

Avatar selection and placement

Select an avatar that aligns with your course tone and audience. Place the avatar consistently on each slide without covering important content. Use audio-only narration for slides with complex visuals. Keep the avatar size consistent. Use different avatars for each section as needed.

Narration timing and flow

Add pauses for natural breaks. Sync narration with slide animations and transitions. Keep narrations under 60 seconds per slide. Preview the project to check smooth transitions and pacing. Give learners time to view visuals before or after narration.

Accessibility considerations

Sync closed captions with avatar narration to avoid a mismatch. Always include captions for learners with hearing impairments. Offer a downloadable transcript for those who prefer reading or offline review.

Publishing considerations

If you publish the project while some avatar narrations are still incomplete, Captivate will prompt you to generate the pending items. For best results, complete all narrations before the final publish.

After selecting Generate Avatar, the Generate Avatar dialog appears. It shows the number of transcripts, the estimated cost, and the time required to create an AI avatar video narration from your transcripts. The dialog also indicates how many credits will be used and how long the process will take, and provides options to either Cancel or Proceed.

Select Generate to start creating the narrations, or choose Publish Anyway to skip narration generation.

If you close the project while generation is in progress, you can still save it and reopen it later to complete the generation. However, make sure to reopen the project within 7 days to resume the process successfully.

Troubleshooting common issues

If you encounter issues with generating avatars, try these troubleshooting steps:

Issue  Possible causes  Solutions
Avatar not generating  Internet connection, avatar not enabled, special characters in transcript, insufficient generative credits.  Check your internet connection, enable AI Narrator in Preferences, ensure the transcript doesn't contain special characters, obtain more generative credits, and restart Adobe Captivate.
Poor audio quality  Complex words, unusual punctuation, long sentences, and a lack of pauses.  Review transcript, try a different voice option, break long sentences, add pauses using [Pause=x] tag, and generate narration again.
Avatar display issues  Avatar not enabled, avatar positioned outside visible area.  Enable avatar, verify avatar position, reset avatar position, and change to a different avatar.
Issues during video generation Internet connection lost, or you have hit the daily rate limit, or server error. Try again later.
