Although using Portfolio & Behance with one another helps you get the most exposure for your work, you can use Portfolio on its own.

If you have a Behance account:

When you publish a project within Portfolio, it automatically syncs with your Behance Profile. At the point of publishing, you'll notice a check box to activate this option. The reverse is also true: when you're publishing a project from Behance, you can choose to sync it to your Portfolio account. Custom Pages do not sync, only Projects.

If you do not have a Behance account:

As soon as you begin publishing projects within Portfolio, a Behance account is made for you automatically. To access it, log in to Behance.net with the same Adobe ID you use for Portfolio, and you'll see your synced projects already in your Profile. If you do not want to display projects within a Behance profile, you can adjust the privacy settings or remove them.

Yes,  you can upload work straight to Portfolio.

Get started adding Project and Custom Page content by clicking the "+" icon in the left column. Although project content syncs between Behance and Portfolio, this simply means that you only have to upload once, and you have access to this project content on both services. However, you can use Portfolio in isolation to add your content, so you never have to leave the experience to create your full site.

Portfolio is a new tool that is only available through the Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps, Single App, and Photography plans. You can learn more about the Creative Cloud plans on creative.adobe.com/plans.
