Adobe Asset Link streamlines collaboration between creatives and marketers in the content creation process. It connects Adobe Experience Manager Assets (AEM Assets) with Creative Cloud desktop apps InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. The Adobe Asset Link panel allows creatives to access and modify content stored in AEM Assets without leaving the creative apps they are most familiar with.

Adobe Asset Link

What's new

Adobe Asset Link enables you to directly link to assets in AEM Assets from within your InDesign 2020 document. If the original asset is modified in AEM Assets, you can quickly refresh the link to ensure that your InDesign document includes the latest version of the asset.

If the AEM server is configured to generate FPO renditions, low-resolution renditions are placed in your InDesign document when you link to assets in AEM. FPO (for placement only) renditions are lightweight substitutes of the original assets. Currently, InDesign 2020 supports importing FPO renditions for a few image types only.

With the Adobe Asset Link panel, you can now sort assets by relevance, in addition to sorting them alphabetically, by size, and by last modified. By default, Adobe Asset Link sorts assets alphabetically. However when you search for an asset, Adobe Asset Link sorts the search results by relevance.

The Adobe Asset Link panel now includes a Gallery view that displays larger preview thumbnails for assets. Compared to the List or Grid view, the Gallery view provides a clearer snapshot of the original assets.

In summary, here are the key capabilities newly introduced in Adobe Asset Link.

  • Ability to import assets from AEM Assets by reference in InDesign documents.
  • Ability to import low-resolution renditions in InDesign documents, which can be replaced by original images later for efficient design creation.
  • Ability to sort assets by relevance.
  • Gallery view with large preview thumbnails.

Enabling digital agencies and freelancers

With Adobe Asset Link, brands can easily grant their agencies access to project assets by adding the agencies as a trusted domain in their environment. For step-by-step instructions, see whitelist trusted domains. If domain trusting does not comply with company policy, the company must provision a Creative Cloud for enterprise seat for the agency so it's assets belong to the company.
