Acrobat freezes with Microsoft Print to PDF printer

Learn how to print your documents with the Adobe PDF printer when Acrobat becomes unresponsive, using the Microsoft Print to PDF printer.

Microsoft Print to PDF may have difficulty with large files that include many images, layers, or interactive elements, causing Acrobat to freeze or fail to print complex PDFs.

Acrobat doesn’t convert your file to PDF

Acrobat sometimes becomes unresponsive when you use Microsoft Print to PDF to convert your file to PDF. 

Print your file with Adobe PDF printer 

  1. Open the file you wish to print in its authoring application.

  2. Select File > Print

  3. Print your file with Adobe PDF printer. Learn more about using the Adobe PDF printer

Switch to Adobe PDF printer from Acrobat prompt

If you frequently have issues with Microsoft Print to PDF, Acrobat prompts you to switch to the Adobe PDF printer.

  1.  Select Print with Adobe to print the PDF with Acrobat.

  2. To continue printing with Microsoft Print to PDF, select Continue with Microsoft.

  3. Select Do not show this message again to save your preference and suppress future prompts.

    Set Adobe PDF as your default printer for PDFs.
