What you learned: Pass photos from Lightroom to Photoshop to create a composite

Follow this cross-application workflow:

  • Start in Lightroom, using Lightroom’s powerful search feature to find photos and its user-friendly photo editing controls to adjust the photos.
  • Lightroom doesn’t include compositing features, but Photoshop has everything you need to combine images in ways that stretch the imagination. So if you want to make a collage, a blended composite, or any design that includes multiple photos, pass those photos from Lightroom to Photoshop.
  • Use Lightroom’s Edit in Photoshop command to pass each photo from Lightroom to Photoshop.
  • In Photoshop, combine the photos into one layered document.
  • Apply a layer Blending Mode to the top layer to make a quick blended composite in Photoshop.
  • Click File > Save and File > Close.
  • Quit Photoshop.
  • Back in Lightroom you’ll find your original photos with any adjustments you added to them in Lightroom, along with the creative composite you crafted in Photoshop.
