How to fix "failed to install" or "failed to update" errors

The Creative Cloud desktop app fails to install or update usually because the Creative Cloud apps on your machine have become corrupted or your machine can't connect to the Adobe servers. Error messages for these problems are: 

Error code 1         |  Error code P50

Error code P1       |  Error code 1001

Error code 50       |   Error code 1002.

To fix these errors, try the solutions below until resolved.

  1. Uninstall the Creative Cloud desktop app using the Creative Cloud desktop app uninstaller.

  2. Sign in to the Creative Cloud desktop app download page.

  3. Click Download in the navigation bar and follow the onscreen instructions.

  1. Download the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to remove the current installation of the Creative Cloud desktop app. 

  2. Right-click the downloaded AdobeCreativeCloudCleanerTool.exe file and choose Run as Administrator.

  3. Choose your language: Type for English and then press Enter.

    Type e for English and press Enter
  4. Review the Adobe End-User License Agreement: Type and press Enter.

    Type y to agree to the End-user License Agreement
  5. Choose option 3: CC Apps, Creative Cloud & CS6 Products and press Enter

    Choose option 3 and press Enter
  6. Choose option 1: Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop and press Enter. Follow the onscreen instructions.

    Choose option 1 and press Enter
  7. Rename the following OOBE folders to OOBE.old:

    Windows

    • \Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE
    • \Users\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE

    macOS

    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE

  8. Sign in to the Creative Cloud desktop app download page.

  9. Click Download in the navigation bar and follow the onscreen instructions.

  1. Create a new local user account with administrator privileges for your machine.

  2. Sign in to your machine using that account.

  3. Uninstall the Creative Cloud desktop app using the Creative Cloud desktop app uninstaller.

  4. Sign in to the Creative Cloud desktop app download page.

  5. Click Download in the navigation bar and follow the onscreen instructions.
