Introduction to footers

A footer is a section at the bottom of each slide designed to provide consistent branding, navigation, and key information across your project. By offering a uniform look and feel, footers enhance the professionalism and visual consistency of your course, creating a polished and engaging learner experience.

Footers are ideal for adding branding elements like logos, course titles, and slide numbers. They can also include dynamic variables, such as learner names or dates, to personalize the learning journey. This dedicated space ensures important details are consistently displayed across all slides, supporting both functionality and design integrity.

Add a footer

By default, adding a footer applies it to all slides in the project, ensuring uniformity. Additionally, footers can include hyperlinks for  important disclaimers to meet legal compliance requirements.

  1. Select   from the left toolbar to add a new slide.

  2. Select Add branding components and then select Footer

Customize a footer

Customize the footer to match your company branding by adding or replacing the logo, editing text blocks, adding copyright information, or using variables to display information such as the learner's name and slide numbers.

Obs!

Any customization made to a footer on one slide is automatically applied to footers on all slides.

  1. Expand the Alignment and Spacing section to add padding from the borders. Use the Content width slider or add the padding values manually. Use the Auto layout toggle to adjust the padding proportionately across devices. Learn more on how to change the alignment and spacing in Adobe Captivate.

  2. Expand the Appearance section and customize the footer by applying a background, border, and shadow.

  3. Select a design option from the options available in the Design Option section to modify the styling and layout of the footer.

  4. In the Components section of Visual Properties, you can add components such as the company logo, company name, and slide number.

    • Company logo: Add a brand logo in PNG or JPEG format. The logo image is scaled responsively based on the device view. The maximum permissible dimensions for the logo (desktop view) are 300x300px.
    • Company name: Include the brand or company name as text.
    • Copyright: Add copyright information or disclaimers or insert hyperlinks to any legal documentation.
    • Slide number: Show the slide number, using variables.

Use variables in a footer

Variables are used to store information that can be dynamically updated and referenced throughout an eLearning project. They are essential for creating interactive and personalized learning experiences.  Learn more about variables in Adobe Captivate.

By default, the footer shows the current slide number. You can customize this further by using variables to include combinations of slide numbers, the total number of slides, or the current date in various formats.

Here's an example:

  1. Select the current slide number text component and enter $$Project.SlideCount$$ to add the total number of slides in the project.

  2. Use this component to display the date in any of the available formats listed in the variables dropdown.

Add hyperlinks in a footer

The Copyright Text component can display static copyright information, such as "@Company Name 2025," or include a hyperlink to a webpage or file with relevant organizational details, such as legal notices, terms of use, or company information.

  1. Select the Copyright text in the footer.

  2. Expand the Link section.

  3. Add the link to a webpage or upload a file from the system.

Delete a footer

To remove the footer from a slide, right-click on it and select Delete. This action removes the footer only from the selected slide; all other slides will retain their footers unless explicitly deleted. If you re-add the footer to the slide, it will inherit the customizations of the existing footer.
