Learn how to change the app settings and set your preferences in Illustrator on the iPad.

Do one of the following:

  • Tap  in the upper-right corner of the Home screen.
  • Tap  in the upper-right corner of the document workspace and then tap App settings.

The App settings dialog appears with various tabs in which you can change the app settings or set your preferences.

Settings and Options

General

Interface and canvas: 

  • Toolbar: Align the toolbar to the left (default) or right.
  • Color theme: Select the preferred theme for the app background. Available options: Use system settings, Lightest (default), Light, or Dark
  • Scale strokes and effects: Select to scale to strokes and effects when scaling the selection or making other transformations. It is not selected by default.
  • Automatically Update Links: Select to update the linked PSD cloud files automatically when the source file is modified.
  • Enable East Asian type options: Select to view and apply the character formatting options for East Asian Type from the Properties panel. This option is not selected by default.
    • When this option is selected, the Placeholder Text drop-down is displayed in which you can select a dummy text option (KoreanJapanese, Maru-maru, Lorem Ipsum).

Restore settings:

  • Reset learn content: Tap to reset Home banners.

Input

Apple Pencil:

  • Palm rejection: Prevent accidental strokes on canvas when using Apple Pencil.
  • Double-tap: Set the preferred tool/action for the double-tap gesture when using Apple Pencil. Available options: Show color picker, Deselect object or path, Switch to pen tool, Zoom to 100%, No action (default)

Touch:

  • View all touch shortcut functions: Tap to open Touch shortcuts map.
  • Show taps as a blue dot: Enable visual indicator to see if a tap on canvas is captured by the app.
  • Stroke Smoothing in Blob Brush: Select While drawing to apply the smoothing effect to strokes when drawing a path or After drawing for smoother effects after you end the stroke.

Units

  • Stroke: Set the preferred unit for strokes. Available options: Pixels, Inches, Centimeters, Millimeters, Points (default), and Ha (available only when East Asian Type Options are enabled).
  • Type: Set the preferred unit for text properties. Available options: Pixels, Inches, Millimeters, Points (default), and Q (available only when East Asian Type Options are enabled).
  • East Asian type: Set the preferred unit for East Asian text type. To enable this option, select Enable East Asian type options in the General tab.

Account

  • Edit profile: Tap to edit your profile.
  • Sign out: Sign out from your Adobe account 
  • Cloud storage: Check your available cloud storage space.
  • Local storage: Check your available device storage space.

About

Version x.x.x: Displays Illustrator on the iPad version.

  • Livestreaming on Behance: Tap to start livestreaming of your design workflows on Behance.
  • Send feedback: Tap to share your feedback with Adobe.

Legal:

  • Send usage info: When enabled, your usage info is shared with Adobe to give you a personalized experience, and helps in improving product features.
  • Send crash reports: Choose Always to regularly send crash reports to Adobe.
