Create color swatches in Adobe Muse

Learn how to create, reuse, import, and export custom color swatches in Adobe Muse.

Adobe Muse is no longer adding new features and will discontinue support on March 26, 2020. For detailed information and assistance, see Adobe Muse end-of-service FAQ.

The Swatches panel

The Swatches panel (Window > Swatches) lets you create and name colors, gradients, or tints, and quickly apply them to your website and individual design elements. Swatches are similar to paragraph and character styles; any change you make to a swatch affects all objects to which the swatch is applied. Swatches make it easier to modify color schemes without having to locate and adjust each individual object.

When the fill or stroke of selected text or an object contains a color or gradient applied from the Swatches panel, the applied swatch is highlighted in the Swatches panel. Swatches you create are associated only with the current document. Each document can have a different set of swatches stored in its Swatches panel.

Using color swatches

Adobe Muse allows you to create and store swatches, an easy way to preserve color themes of a website design. You can create and reuse swatches across different pages of your website. You can either create a color swatch anew by setting RGB values or by selecting a colored object.

Create a new color swatch

  1. In Adobe Muse, select Window > Swatches to bring-up the Swatches panel.

  2. On the Swatches panel, click the  button to display the Swatch Options dialog.

  3. On the Swatch Options dialog, specify the following:

    • Swatch Name: is disabled and assigned RGB values of the swatch by default. To enter a different name, unselect the Name with Color Value option, and provide a meaningful name.
    • Name with Color Value: is enabled by default. Selecting this option overrides the name of the swatch with RGB color value.
    • Select Color: use the Color Picker () tool, if needed, to hover over any object within Adobe Muse to select its color.
      • Hue, Saturation, Brightness: determines how you choose your color. You can specify Hue (H), Saturation (S), and Brightness (H) values for Adobe Muse to display color schemes accordingly. You can then click and select a color of your choice.
      • Red, Green, Blue: allows you to define and use the exact color needed for your web design. You can specify values that range from 0 to 255.
      • Hexadecimal values (#): you can choose to enter the correct Hexadecimal value of the color.
  4. Click OK to create a new swatch.

Import and export swatch library

  1. You can import and export swatch libraries as Adobe Swatch Exchange (ASE) files.

    Select Windows > Swatches.

  2. Right-click on an empty area of the Swatches panel.

  3. Click Import Swatches Library... to import a swatch library. Browse to the ASE file in your device, double-click the file, and click OK to import the file.

  4.  Click Export Swatches Library... to export a swatch library. Save the swatch library to your local computer or an external system.
