Working in a team? Learn how to invite collaborators to directly review and share comments on your Illustrator cloud documents.
Illustrator makes collaboration easy when you work in a team. With the power of cloud documents, you can share document links for review with other team members and make edits directly from the app. You can either use Illustrator on the desktop or the iPad to send invitations. Similarly, collaborators can use desktop or iPad to edit, review and comment on the shared documents.
From the App (Desktop or iPad)
To share your Illustrator cloud document with collaborators, perform the following tasks:
-
-
Select Invite people to edit section, and specify a valid AdobeID email address of the people you want to collaborate with on this document.
-
[Optional] In the Write a comment section, type a note for collaborators.
-
Select the Invite to Edit button to send the invitation and collaborate on the same document, one collaborator at a time.
-
Select the Settings icon to control link access. You can also access settings when you select Change.
Ensure that the recipient's AdobeID emails used in invitation match with their Illustrator, Creative Cloud desktop, and Creative Cloud web AdobeID.
The Members section in the Invite to edit dialog displays the names and email addresses of all the invited collaborators and the owner of the shared cloud document.
Points to note:
- Ensure that the Illustrator document on your desktop that you want to share is a cloud document. If the document you want to share is stored on your computer, save it as a cloud document. Click Continue under Save as a cloud document to invite people option in the Invite to edit dialog.
- Ensure you're connected to the Internet to seamlessly work on shared cloud documents. If you're unable to find your shared cloud documents online or face any issues, see Why I can't see my cloud documents online?
-
Select File > Invite to Edit (desktop) or icon(iPad) in the upper-right corner of the Illustrator app.
-
If you're the owner of the document, you can select Settings icon to control the link access.
-
You can also control if people you share the link with can comment, save a copy, or both.
-
Select Send link to share a cloud document as a link to allow stakeholders to view and provide a comment on it. The comments flow back into the app to resolve feedback.
From the Creative Cloud (Desktop or Web)
You can also invite collaborators to edit your Illustrator cloud documents from the Creative Cloud desktop and web.
View and edit shared cloud documents
FOR REVIEWER
If you are a reviewer who has signed in with an Adobe ID, you can request edit access from assets.adobe.com. Even if you don't have an Adobe email ID, you can comment as a Guest.
FOR DESIGNER
If you are a designer, you will get a notification inside the Sharesheet panel to grant or reject access on the upper-right corner of the Creative Cloud desktop and web.
If Illustrator is not already installed or updated on your device, you are prompted to install or update it.
For this function to work in real time, you have to ensure active internet connectivity at all times.
You can view and manage feedback received from stakeholders within Illustrator. The comments you receive are linked to the relevant objects and pages in Illustrator.
Reply, resolve, or delete comments
Click each comment in the Review panel and click … to avail more options to Reply, Resolve, or Delete individual comments. Click any comment to take you to the relevant area on the Illustrator document.
When you click:
- A pin annotation: Illustrator displays the comments associated with the area pointed by the pin.
- A comment: Illustrator displays the objects associated with the comment.
- An annotation on canvas: Illustrator displays area marked by a freeform shape and displays relevant comment in the Review panel.
Reply to comments
Click Reply in the Review panel.
Resolve, Edit or Delete comments
Click More Options and select the corresponding option.
When you delete a comment, all associated replies are deleted permanently.
Reference stakeholders using @ mention
When you use @mention to reference stakeholders, they are notified through the Creative Cloud app and email.
From the App (Desktop or iPad)
The invitation for editing a cloud document is auto-accepted. You can open the Illustrator on the desktop or the iPad to view the shared document. Do the following:
-
Go to Home screen > Shared with you to see all your shared documents.
-
Click or tap the shared document to open and start editing. Your changes are auto-saved on the cloud as you work.
Currently, Illustrator provides asynchronous editing where each collaborator can edit a shared cloud document one at a time. If the shared cloud document is already open on another system, a dialog appears in which you can choose one of the following:
- Click Make a copy to work on a copy of the shared cloud document.
- Click OK and reopen the document after the current user is done with the changes.
Manage shared cloud documents
- Name and email addresses of the owner and collaborators are visible in the Invite to edit dialog.
- Owner of the shared document can remove collaborators to stop sharing the cloud document.
- Even if you don't have an Adobe email ID, you can comment as a Guest.
- Collaborators can also choose to leave if they no longer want to contribute.
- After a collaborator leaves or has been removed, the shared document is removed permanently from the list of shared documents.
- Collaborators cannot remove the owner of the shared document.
From the App (Desktop or iPad)
To remove a collaborator:
-
Select File > Invite to Edit (desktop) or (iPad) in the upper-right corner of the Illustrator menu bar.
-
Hover over the name of the collaborator and select Remove.
-
Select File > Invite to Edit (desktop) or (iPad) in the upper-right corner of the Illustrator app.
-
Hover over your own name and select Leave.
From the Creative Cloud (Desktop or Web)
You can remove collaborators from the shared documents with Creative Cloud website and desktop, see How to remove invited collaborators.
