Install Creative Cloud desktop app

The Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application is your central location for managing the dozens of apps and services that are included in your Creative Cloud membership. You can also sync and share files, manage thousands of fonts, access libraries of stock photography and design assets, and showcase and discover creative work in the community. The Creative Cloud desktop app is your window into it all.

When you download your first Creative Cloud product, the Creative Cloud desktop app is installed automatically. If you have Adobe Application Manager installed, it auto-updates to the Creative Cloud desktop app.

If you don’t have the Creative Cloud desktop app installed, you can download it manually. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Download button.

  2. Follow the onscreen instructions.

Note:

We do not recommend uninstalling the Creative Cloud desktop app. But if you must uninstall it, see Uninstall the Creative Cloud desktop app.

Download and install apps

Here's how to download, install, and update your apps using the Creative Cloud desktop app. You can also browse apps by popularity, category, and version to discover new apps.

  1. To access the Creative Cloud desktop app, click the Creative Cloud icon, located in the taskbar (Windows) or Apple menu bar (Mac OS).

    Note:

    By default, the Creative Cloud desktop app is launched when you log in to your computer. If you don’t see the Creative Cloud icon, you may have quit the application. Here’s how to relaunch it:

    • Windows: Choose Start > Programs > Adobe Creative Cloud.
    • Mac OS: Choose Go > Applications > Adobe Creative Cloud > Adobe Creative Cloud.

  2. Click the Apps tab if it’s not already selected. Recently installed apps on your computer appear at the top of the panel. The list may include previously installed versions.

  3. Scroll down to Find Additional Apps. You can also filter by category or software version.

  4. Click Install or Update to install your selected app.

    You can check for updates manually by clicking the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the Creative Cloud desktop app, and choosing Check for App Updates from the pop-up menu. You can also refresh the Creative Cloud desktop app and check for updates by pressing Ctrl+Alt+R (Windows) or Command+Option+R (Mac OS).

  5. To download and install a previous version of an app, select View Previous Versions from the filters menu. Scroll down to find the app you want, and then click to app's Install menu and choose a version from the Install menu popup.

    Depending on your network’s download speed, it could take some time to download your app.

Sync and share files

Sync files from your computer to Creative Cloud and access them from anywhere. Files are instantly available on all your connected devices and computers, and on your Creative Cloud Files page. To sync files, download and install the Creative Cloud desktop app on all computers.

To sync files, do one of the following:

  • Copy, paste, or move files to the Creative Cloud Files directory or folder on your computer.

You can open the Creative Cloud Files directory or folder from the Creative Cloud desktop app by clicking the Assets tab, then the Files panel, and clicking Open Folder.

  • In an app, choose File > Save or File > Save As and navigate to the Creative Cloud Files directory or folder on your computer.

The original files are always on your computer or device. Files are synced via Creative Cloud to all connected devices.

You can view your files online on the Creative Cloud Assets page. Once the files are synced, you don't need to be online, and you can view them from the Creative Cloud Files directory or folder on your computer.

Add fonts from Typekit

You can use Typekit fonts in all your Creative Cloud apps and other desktop software.

Choose a typeface from one of Typekit’s many foundry partners and sync it to your desktop with Creative Cloud. Synced fonts are available for use in all Creative Cloud apps and other desktop software.

You must have a paid Creative Cloud membership or an eligible Typekit account to sync fonts to your desktop computer.

The Fonts panel displays fonts synced to your computer. To sync fonts, do the following:

  1. In the Creative Cloud for desktop app, click the Assets tab and then the Fonts panel.

  2. Click Add Fonts from Typekit. A Typekit window opens in your browser.

    If this is your first time using Typekit, click I’m new to Typekit and follow the prompts to set up your account.

  3. In the Typekit window, move your mouse over a font card and click + Use Fonts.

  4. Select the fonts from the selected family and click Sync selected fonts.

Find assets on Adobe Stock

You can search for image assets on Adobe Stock from right within the Creative Cloud desktop app.

Adobe Stock is a service that provides designers and businesses with access to 55 million high-quality, curated, royalty-free images, illustrations, vector graphics, video and our new Premium collection for all their creative projects. You can purchase a single image on an as-needed basis, or purchase a multi-image subscription.

  1. On the Stock tab, enter keywords for the stock image search and click Go.

  2. If prompted, provide your date of birth and click Update.

    You will see an Adobe Stock website page that displays stock images relevant to your search.

Adobe Stock and Creative Cloud Libraries

You can add a watermarked image preview from the Adobe Stock website to any of your libraries. In Creative Cloud apps that support Libraries—Photoshop, lllustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and After Effects—simply drag the watermarked stock image from the Libraries panel to your project. When you’re ready, you can also license the stock image from within the Libraries panel in the Creative Cloud desktop app.

When you license an image, Creative Cloud apps that support library-linked assets—Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign—will automatically update all linked instances of the image to the licensed, high-resolution version without the watermark.

Find design assets with Market

Creative Cloud Market is a collection of high-quality, curated content by creatives, for creatives. Creative Cloud subscribers can access assets from Market for free on desktop and mobile devices (via Creative Cloud connected apps), choosing from an incredible selection of vector graphics, icons, patterns, UI kits, and more. Creative Cloud subscribers can download up to 500 unique, royalty-free assets each month. This powerful new service lets creatives seamlessly find assets to build upon, manipulate, and modify to jumpstart their creative process.

Share and discover with Behance

Showcase and discover creative work on Behance. As a member, you can create a portfolio of your work and broadcast it widely and efficiently. Or, explore the latest creative work from designers around the world by browsing featured or popular work across fields.

  • Log in or sign up to access your Behance Activity Feed, Portfolio, and Share & Discover New Work. If you already have an account, you'll be prompted to log in. If you don't have an account already, signup is quick and easy.
  • Even without a Behance account, you can explore Projects and Work in Progress from the Creative Cloud desktop app, using the Community panel.

Home and activity feed

The Activity Stream on the Creative Cloud desktop app Home panel shows your interactions with Creative Cloud. Here you can view events and activities, such as new app availability, updates, and installation status.

Sign in to activate Creative Cloud

Activate Creative Cloud and Deactivate Creative Cloud

To activate Creative Cloud, simply sign in to Creative Cloud with your Adobe ID. Signing in activates the Creative Cloud license and all installed apps and services that are associated with your Adobe ID. You can then use your apps and services normally.

  • To sign in, click the dimmed Creative Cloud icon, located in the taskbar (Windows) or Apple menu bar (Mac OS), to open the Creative Cloud desktop app. 
  • Enter your Adobe ID (usually your email address) and password, and click Sign in. (If the Creative Cloud desktop app opens, you are already signed in.)

You are now able to use Creative Cloud services, install Creative Cloud apps, and launch Creative Cloud apps that you may have previously installed.

To deactivate Creative Cloud, sign out from Creative Cloud. Signing out deactivates all installed Creative Cloud apps and services associated with your Adobe ID on that computer. The apps are still installed, but they are no longer connected to a valid license. Sign in again to reactivate the license and use the apps and services.

  • To sign out, open the Creative Cloud desktop app, and then click the gear icon and choose Preferences. Click General and then click Sign Out.

The Creative Cloud apps and services associated with your Adobe ID are now deactivated on that computer.

Preferences

To open the Preferences dialog box in the Creative Cloud desktop app, click the gear icon and choose Preferences.

The Preferences dialog box gives you options for customizing and working with Creative Cloud, including changing your software install language, adjusting settings for Creative Cloud services, and signing out, if you need to temporarily deactivate your account.

  • To deactivate all your Creative Cloud apps and services associated with your Adobe ID, click General and then click Sign Out. Signing out deactivates all installed Creative Cloud apps and services associated with your Adobe ID.
  • To enable automatic updates, select Always Keep Creative Cloud Desktop Up To Date .
  • To change your software install language or install location, choose Preferences > Creative Cloud > Apps. For detailed instructions, see Change the language setting of your Creative Cloud apps.
  • To connect to your Work with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Assets repository, select Login to AEM Assets. For more information, see Work with AEM Assets.
  • Use the FilesFonts, and Behance tabs to modify their settings.
  • To show notifications from Adobe, select the Show OS notifications setting in each tab.
